Addicted to Talkbass?

Sign in to disble this ad
You could say I have an addictive personality. In my early years I became addicted to skateboarding, bmxing, counter-strike, and then during high school I was into pot and general recklessness. Later on I had some difficulties after my dear mom passed and became addicted to opiates and heroin.

I've been clean for a while now, but I am having a hard time w/ Talkbass...it's taking up an unhealthy amount of my time. It's gotten to the point where it's safe to say I'm addicted...

...maybe I should go back to AA and start the steps over...

Until go into debt, lose your family and friends, and your life goes in a downward spiral and you end up living in Central park. But at least you have a Fodera!!!

To the OP. Good work, on getting clean man.
TB is a very healthy addiction. It doesn't physically hurt you, and if you read enough of username's, fontaine's, or Maki's posts, you'll get that natural high!

Yeah, you can do worse. Good for you to recognize the problem and realize you need to watch out.

Me, I'm having an EASY time. It's quite easy for me to spend copious amounts of time that ought to be spent on more constructive activities.

One thing I've noticed (I'm in "late middle age," so I tend to notice things about myself whereas I used to just ignore it and go with the flow).

I tend to spend more time TALKING about playing music, and less time actually DOING it. It's like "oh, I don't want to practice, to improve my skills, so I'll just talk about it. Hey, look, there's this TalkBass thingy! Let's see what that's all about!

"Oh, look here, I can just TALK about playing the bass instead of DOING it! How easy is that! And then when I don't improve, stay mired in a rut, I'll just talk about how I'm in a rut, instead of actually doing something about it..."

I don't know if there're any 12-Step programs for indolence.

There's a 12-half-step program!

+1000

I'm addicted to TB too I guess. Not that I get anxious if I can't check it out for a week, but anyway. I spend too much time here when I should practice the bass, clean my apartment, make some food etc...

I've been addicted to the Microsoft games Minesweeper, Solitaire and Freecell too. I got pretty good at them. I'm addicted to coffee too. I don't mind that though, doesn't do any harm to me or waste my time.

There's not too many internet pages I've been addicted to except TB. Facebook was however very addictive the first half year I used it, now the interest is declining. I just basically check out what's happened today and log out...

I wish I was equally addicted to the bass as I am to TB....

I'm addicted because I take my pocket PC wherever I go, and use whatever internet I can to stay connected to TB.

Try spending half you time on TB and the other half of your time visiting porn sites. That should balance you out fairly well.

I have flashget, so I just queue up my porno and watch it later.

~~~Edit~~~
Half of them I have not watched because I spend too much time on Talkbass.
First of all, mad props for getting clean off smack, that's no easy task.
Segundo, aside from bad g.a.s. pains, TB usually doesn't have any harmful side effects, but on the downside, rehab is pretty painful, and it involves listening to trance music.
I am addicted to the ban war here on talkbass.
When thinking about people i just come up with bans automatically...
I am glad i am addicted to OT and not The bass or amp section, OT doesn't make me want to buy things, although i do like the effects forum quite alot, i'm so happy that the tiny bits of money i do get i have to spend on other things.
I am also addicted to my girlfriend, especially when in bed, sure its not great seeing as i'm only 15 but it keeps me sane.
Well, good luck trying to quit, it helps to get yourself banned then that might put you off.
What you've got there is a case of the "geek", sir. Not an addiction.
