So awhile ago I agreed to trade a TBer my bass for his. My old 80s Squier for his Ibanez. We agreed to ship it the same day. I shipped it early that afternoon and sent the guy his tracking number.
I never got a PM from the guy saying he shipped it either.
I've been sending PMs trying to find out what the deal is and every one has gone unanswered. Clicking on his profile shows he logs into TB pretty much everyday. His last activity was 2 oclock today.
He already has my bass and doesn't live anything close to local and he's got good feedback.
What should I do?

Then, leave him appropriate feedback to warn future TB'ers who may deal with him. |

No, I'm not actually the TBer in question |

Normally I wouldn't mind a few days descrepency (I spelled that terribly wrong but I've been at work since 7pm last night so sue me) but the fact that I haven't heard from him at all, coupled with the fact that he has to be getting my PMs, worries me about the trade.

He said his room mate was supposed to ship the bass, and was going to find out what the deal was with it.
I'm going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt because when I sent the bass I had to write: to xxxx c/o xxxx
x being these peoples names.

The above quote ,I am sure will soon become a reality. And not just a remark of jest.
I do so hope I'm wrong as ever

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2005 Location: Johnson City, TN | | | I had a similar trade situation here on TB a few years ago - two guys with good reps each wanting the other's gear. I shipped mine, then it was like the other guy dropped off the face of the earth. I kept inquiring and finally he responded - he didn't actually have the gear, a third party did and was supposed to ship, but he was in the middle of a move, then on vacation, twists, turns, yada yada. Eventually I got the goods but in terrible condition & not working. The whole thing sounded so solid at the start. At the end I lost big time. It was a real downer. Leaving bad feedback doesn't seem like enough of a penalty, but there's not much else to be done other than driving a very long way for a heart-to-heart. Maybe I should have done that, I don't know.
If you reach the point where you think you'll never receive anything, maybe there's a criminal complaint recourse via a call to the cops in his town - when they come knocking and asking questions he might be pressured to perform.
Trades are based on trust. While most people stand up, some people are pretty callous. I chalked it up to a life experience. |
