After watching Saw films, do you consider if you've lived a valuable life?

lately I hear everyone talk about how great the Saw films are, how this one (the fifth) is supposed to be great, etc. Then they ask me if I'm going to check it out. Frankly, I've gotten sick of the Saw films lately for the sole reason that they generate too much thought with me....don't get me wrong, using your brain is fun, but I ask myself "have you lived an honorable, cherished life?" after watching them........really a bummer.

meh i wouldn't bother....I've been watching Romero's zombie films (night of, day of, dawn of).......Zombies are such a more sunshiney happy figure for horror films, there should be more.

let me basically sum it up for you
2 amanda ends up being subjected to another game, in which she lives, making her runup for jigsaws replacement, matt gets thrown into another room to suffer. moral is survival.
3 matt beats his own leg to hell after desperately sitting in the dark, a few people get killed, a father ends up losing his children, and ultimately his wife's life after "not learning to forgive".
4 we find out why jigsaw's so sad, matt gets squished between two blocks of ice, more people die, hurray, the end. the moral is save yourself before others, as one cocky cop that continuously tries to solve the case ends up shot by the end of the movie, presumably dying.

If you've just finished watching one of the Saw films, chances are you have wasted 90 minutes of your life.

I used to love slasher flicks but I find that as I get older and my mortality becomes more real I enjoy them less and less.

I havent seen any of the Saw flicks.

Yup. I value my life too much to spend it watching the Saw films.

How sad. The "Saw" films are disgusting rubbish, and I don't know what to think of our society for embracing such.

The ending of the first movie was a surprise,we enjoyed the movie with a few beers.

As it was a good movie,we got the 2nd movie which we didnt bother to finish. What a disappointment that was.
I won't even watch the other ones.

Its a classic act,the first movie is good and you make crappy following movies.

I have, so far, lived a valuable life, but I have sadly wasted some of it watching Saw films!

Saw the first one in the theater... It was good then, but it doesn't hold up outside a cinematic environment: seeing it in a dark theater on the big screen with people you've never met who are just as enthralled with the concept as you are. When you watch it at home or wherever, the poor acting really hurts it.

That said, as a horror-film fan (and sometime cinematic student/practicing screenwriter) I think the Saw films as a whole have done a whole lot more damage to the genre than they bring to the table. In a genre where movies come in cycles (Halloween kick started the "slasher" flick, The Ring began the integration of Japanese-style horror into American cinema, etc.) Saw has definitely shaped the current crop of horror movies that receive lots of screenings and large amounts of P.R. work, but there have been several horror films that have gone unnoticed because of it--The Host, Midnight Meat Train, 28 Days Later (to a lesser extent), etc. Luckily, we're about due for the next genre defining film, so the years of being swamped with Saw sequels and copies are almost over.

As far as intellectual exercise goes, if the Saw movies get you thinking, good for you, but there are much better horror films that raise more pertinent questions (28 Days Later is a great example).

Saw sucks. Any movie that they have to make 5 of in order for people to get the point is not worth the waste. I saw the 1st one... it was ok. Saw the 2nd one on a date and couldnt stop laughing at its lameness, I think I made my date mad. Never bothered with it since.

I always hate to hear how much people love the Saw movies. Simply massive amounts of gore to make up for the complete lack of cleverness or really plot for that matter. I've seen absolutely nothing clever or unexpected in the first three. Fortunately I didn't really waste time watching them since I was simply in the same room as someone watching them. That said I really see no need for the whole slasher flick genre, since all of the ones that I've seen can fit the description given above.

No stupid horror film would ever make me question my life and what meaning it has been to anyone. If i have lived a valued life my family ,friends and choices i have made proven that..not a foolish film.

Yup, it got screwed over in the distribution phase so that Lionsgate could put more energy behind... you guessed it, Saw V.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805570/

trailer here:

I've got a DVD on the way, so I'll report back as to the actual quality of the film once I give it a spin. Safe bet that it'll be better than Saw V, though.
