Ok, I'm pretty sure it's not just me who can "smell" when I person is drunk or tipsy. You don't have to look at them or hear them, just sniff around a bit and you know that someone nearby has had a few. They don't have to be breathing in your direction or anything. My question is why can you smell the alcohol on them? I go into bars and clubs and don't smell a lick until I get to that person and I'm sure there's more alcohol at the location than what's in their system. Any science out the that can explain this?

Some people wreak after a few beers, and some can be scent-free after they're hammered. I'm one of the second ones. My wife has told me the same thing.

When I was a substance abuse therapist, we actually had therapist there who could smell the metabolite of cocaine (called benzoylecgonine) on people when they recently used. I don't think she was ever wrong either. When she smelled it she screened them, and I'm pretty sure her accuracy was always spot on. I have never heard of anyone else with a beak that sensitive! |

I couldn't believe they were out in public smelling that strongly of alcohol.
The scary thing is, I think they had both been drinking, which means one of them had to have driven there drunk. |

I'm sure it'd be overwhelming if I experienced it regularly, but I actually find the malty sweetness to be pleasant when at shows or other places that involve sweating and drinking in confined places.

Anytime someone who's had a few always smells like a penny that's been held in someone's hand too long. Known a few people where I could always tell if they'd been drinking, the smell was usually present. Takes forever to get that smell out of a car if you have to give them a ride somewhere too...

it was a vin diesel movie, though, so maybe that irritated him. it kind of irritated me. |
