This would have made a great Seinfeld episode. The deal for the all you can eat meal was $28, but the catch is you have to eat the rice and not just dissect the fish from the sushi. A patron with diabetes skipped the filling rice and just ate the fish. He kept ordering more than a person eating the whole thing. Said patron claims he can't eat rice due to his condition.
Here is the LA Times writer's take: Quote:
That said, I'm with Oh on this one.
If it's Oh's policy that you eat everything you're served if you want the all-you-can-eat price, then that's the policy. If you don't like it, don't go there again. Or pay the a la carte price and eat whatever you want. Or order the sashimi for goodness' sake and don't make such a fuss.
"The rice is part of the all-you-can-eat sushi," Oh said. "If you only eat the fish, I would go broke."

I really could see George Costanza arguing with a restaurant owner over this and Kramer advising him to get a lawyer.

I get the idea, but due to his condition I'd just shut the hell up, I've worked with customers a bit and this man seems like an exception, I wouldn't loose my reputation (customer service wise) over this, that's if he had any good one tho. Now if a whole lot of people would do it I'd make things clear.
disclosure: I've only read the post, not the articles and stuff.
edit: Every once in a while in a shop you lose money, be it clearance, misadvertisement, etc it's just part of the deal.

I've picked away at expensive stuff at all you can eat buffets and even didn't finish the cheaper stuff before going to the premium items. i suppose a buffet is different and sushi even more so.

Did I read it wrong? Was it a buffet? If so, that's an insane business move.

Mr. Martin, it's all you can eat sushi, not all you can eat sashimi. LEARN TO READ or sue the college that gave you your education. Diabetes and stupidity or ignorance isn't linked, leastwise until now.
I wonder if David Martin is related to the clown who is an administrative judge who sued his cleaners for a million dollars, in DC, a few years ago.
This case needs to be dismissed and costs awarded to Mr. Jay Oh.
CASE CLOSED!!!!
| I was hoping some TBers would jump on the side of the diabetic victim here

The guy was just mowing down the fish and throwing out everything else and returning to the buffet. They confronted him and it was a huge scene. He bailed without paying.

It seems like the guy thought it was reasonable to be able to eat $80 of food for $28 in a business that he's only able to visit because it exists so that people can earn a living. Dumb.
