READ IT ALL OR DONT BOTHER RESPONDING I took the time to write a long and thought out post, please take the time to give me a well thought out answer, if you do answer.
Heres the deal. I came to this forum to further my bass playing skills and hang out with other musicians. I came to discuss and love music with others I hoped had the same passion for it that I do.
Lately though I cant even post into a topic without somebody coming into it and making stupid comments over the fact that Im a fan Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar playing. I mean its rediculous. Every post I have made, or replied to has turned into a stupid rant about my username and its just annoying. I wanted to be able to talk about something else so I decided to post up a thread or 2 asking for suggestions on a new name. That didnt go well, and I shouldnt have expected any diferent.
I did some thinking about it, and I think it is because I have chosen a prestigeuos GUITAR player to represent in my username. Granted the man is a bit arrogant and wasnt a shining human being during his prime. Malsteen has been sober for a long time now, and I think he still married and has a kid he is raising. However, how many people on here are Jaco fans and put Jaco in their user names? He wasnt exactly a model human being either he was a drunk drug addict that shot his mouth off to the wrong guy and got killed. What a hero!! (sarcasm) So why am I being bugged about Malmsteen several months later in every post I try to speak in? Im tired of being a good sport about it.
This whole anti-guitar thing on this forum also drives me nuts. If your guitarist is such a jerk why did you let him in your band in the first place, and why make a post to complain about it? Kick him to the curve and find a decent human being with a 6string.
I thought this forum would be about music, but its lately mostly about everything else. When it is about music its usually a bash fest on whatever music is in question. I was looking for a place to come and talk about what we like in music, instead its a bunch of snobs picking out every minor detail they dont like about a particular peace and dogging on it.
Lastly, what is with the hatred of heavy metal here? I see it as powerful and energitic music. I also have good reason to believe that is a music that can unite people, because when I see and talk to other metalheads its like we are family. I havent seen that sort of thing happening other types of music. Im not saying it doesnt happen, Im just saying I havent seen it. I love heavy metal and yes I bring it up a lot. The reason I bring it up so often is because I believe it is the best form of musical art. I believe it can make people's lifes better. I know it makes my life better. I want to spread it to people who arent exposed to it, and maybe get some people to take a relisten to some bands they didnt get into the first time. I think that there is a subgenre for everyone. I have strong feelings about what heavy metal is and is not. because I spend a lot of time talking to memembers of the Metal community, and doing research on the genre and the its subgenres and its bands. If you dont understand the appeal of metal, thats OK. I love it.
Just some thoughts I had. I dont want to leave this forum so I apologise in advance if it sounds like I do. Some of this stuff has just been bugging me a lot lately, and I needed to let it out. |

Ever read the comments on YouTube videos?
The problem is anonymity breeds massive courage, and given the chance, stupid people will say stupid things.
Don't take it so personal. Get used to the fact that a good 15-30% of people responding to ANYTHING on the Internet are bound to say something ignorant, just because they can, and lack anything really substantive to offer.
Think of your username as a ****** filter.
Someone says something ignorant about it? Idiot. Write them off as worthless. Add them to your ignore list.
Don't get worked up over stupid people on the Internet. There's too many of them. |

I for one have not attacked your choice of name. There are threads for music on here, and being a bass community, threads about other things as well.
I personally like metal, but being an online community there will be people that don't share the same views and will more than likely "stir the pot" to get the reaction you just posted on less grand scale.
As a whole I like these forums and the diversity of people on here, you just have to pick and choose the posts you will use and read. There is always the option to ignore certain offenders.
Have fun on here and take things a little more lightly. It's just the internet you know

There is no reason for anyone to put down any genre of music. There's a variety of genres for a reason. There are too many varieties of people for one type of music to satisfy. Most people like multiple types of music.
I also think its a waste of time and energy to go on a thread and rag on a form of music that I don't like. I don't see any need for people to do that.
I don't really understand the anti-guitarist thing either. Poking fun at non-bass players in a good natured or light hearted way is probably to be expected (i.e., drummer jokes).
My 2 pennies worth.

If you think that double bass means 2 basses in one band, you are wrong...

| Yeah I got a bit carried away there. I just wanted to make a point. I was a bit hateful, and that wasnt cool. Misdirected anger is a SOB sometimes. Jaco was a hell of a visionary and modern bass guitar owes its rear end to Jaco, but I still say he didnt live the sort of life that warrants idolization anymore than Malmsteen does.
I didnt mean to put him on a throne. Dimebag Darrell of Pantera is actually my favorite guitarist. Just for some reason when I sat down to play bass the classical stuff sort of comes out naturally so when I saw a monster guitar player composing and performing that style and crossing it into heavy metal I got very excited about that. Im a lot younger than many of the other people on here I havent been playing for years and years. I just hadnt seen someone play like that before and when it sounded like what was coming naturally to me (though Ill never be THAT good) I found something to aspire to. I made the name before I knew anything about the man except that he impressed the hell out of me on guitar.
One last thing. Im not asking for sympathy or empathy, and Im not whining. Just when I cant post an opinion and get any decent feedback, it makes me a bit ticked off. Especially at a place where the whole point is the free flow of ideas theories concepts and opinions. Yngwie Malmsteen is a influencial guitar player who was in his prime during the 1980's. He is a top notch musician in terms of technical ability, and if you like classical music you should check it out. HERE IS A VIDS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzW8fi8z5C8
(Bluesy Malmsteen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpDblDia5TE
(Acoustic Malmsteen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj3ec2cCaJw

(Ballad Malmsteen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4l1Jk3ZCb4

CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF HE COULD PLAY MULTIPLE STYLES

I can get pretty offended if someone rags on some of my favorite bands/musicians and will not take my opinions seriously based on such preferences. I personally try not to do that to someone, especially if I lack knowledge of the subject in question. If anything I say bothers you, just let me know.
However, most of the anti-guitar statements I've seen on here are more out of fun than people seriously hating guitarists or considering them "inferior musicians" (some uniformed guitarists have similar attitudes about bass players). |

I just went through your posts, the only time people made fun of your name was when you decided to make a thread about your name. If you don't want them to make fun of your name then don't ask them to discuss it and if you don't like your name and want to change it (I guess that was the reason you made the topic) then change it. As far I can see your still Yngwie 4String.
The only time they "made fun of" metal was when you decided to make a thread which makes fun of metal.
You said nobody on hear likes metal and everyone disses it? One of the single oldest moderators on here is named Major_Metal. They're are plenty of metalheads on the forum.
Now, the real big idiotic point you tried to make was that nobody talked about music. Why the hell would you post in the Off-Topic forum to talk about music? The entire point of this section of the forum is talk about stuff unrelated to music. If you want to talk about musically-related things, then I suggest not going to the only single section on here that says "non music-related" in the caption.
I'm sorry it is just ridiculous that your insulting TB.
I've been on many forums and this is the classiest and best run forum on the internet, no bias I swear to god.

Thats a hell of an accomplishment since Im on like 5 general music forums and probably 10 or 15 metal forums. I think your just getting the wrong side of what Im tryign to say, and thats my fault. I dont know how to alwys communicate what I mean in written word, but I bet wed be on the same page after a couple beers.
What do you think?
