Alternative to Ad-Aware

Sign in to disble this ad
Ad-Aware was slowing my computers startup and it took a long time to load then to do updates, etc. Dumped it. Does anyone have a good ad blocking alternative? Thanks.

Aside from Firefox with Adblock Plus included, I use these three programs to keep my computer clean:

- Ad-Aware (works fine for me)
- Spybot S&D
- Spyware Blaster

Also, if you use Internet Explorer, here's a (safe) tweak to stop ad servers on that browser:

http://pgl.yoyo.org/as/

(Read all the info. The tweak is at "start blocking ads now: four easy steps")

Hope this helps.

ccleaner.com is a great little program to clean up your system including a registry checker.

Firefox
Ad Block Plus
No-Script
Avast! anti-virus
Spybot S&D

all freeware all update automatically except Spybot, but that is easy to update manually every couple of days

Ad Block and No-Script are excellent.....I don't know how I lived without them before...it makes you realize how much of what comprises a web page is utter crap that has little to do with content.

Superantispyware is one of the best. It seems like not a lot of people know about it.

Yep. Great program. As is Malwarebytes.

I used to use SPybot And Ad-Aware, but both have come to suck, IMO.

Use Firefox and its ad-blocker functions.

Avoid using IE as much as humanly possible.

Run Microsoft Security Essentials. Best program they've brought out in a long time. I've had two network managers recommend it to me over any other antivirus program available.

Be very, very, very careful using that registry cleanup thing.

NoScript is hard for a lot of people to understand, and it takes a bit of experimentation to see which of about nineteen scripts a site may try to run on you are really needed to get the site to work for you, and which ones are just essentially spyware.
