There are a few places in the world where this is possible. This particular spot has always had an allure to me, because it's in the middle of a fairly populated area and has easy access. Looks really fun. Anyone done this?

Ive actually surfed at that exact spot. The water just kinda slows down a little further down from there and you just jump out, grab your board and go again.

Not to worry, plenty of us surfers are fat, we just ride thicker boards

So those are called freestyle whitewater kayaks? I've had the opportunity to play with those in some pretty big surf. They're fun and easy to maneuver. Dig them.

So who has a local river with a wave in it? There are none around here.

Yes! In Maine there are many places that can be done when the tides go in and out. They are called tidal basins. It helps to have a rope to help you get into position!! I can't surf very well so I never managed to stay up very long

What's the translation on the sign? Something like surfing strictly forbidden? LOL

That looks pretty damned cool. Wonder what's downstream???

I am not 100% sure on the actual name, but my friend always calls them playboats/playboating. I wish I had a local river with a wave. I know there is an artificial one in Big Horn Montana.

My buddy calls his a platypus, because the nose looks like a duckbill.

I have heard it called that as well. I think that might be the shape of it, as I have seen a few different shapes. The closest I have gotten to doing it is sitting in one and doing 180s on dry land.

I've always wanted to bomb a river. I've done some whitewater rafting, but that was with a guide and other people in an inflatable raft. Those people were my mom and dad, and my sister. We were cruising class 4 rapids down the American river, and all I could think was how cool it would be to do them by myself in a kayak.

I really want to do that some day. Planed on doing it this summer, but it just didn't work out.

There's a little bit of a man-made river with waves here in town. I've never surfed it, but I have gone wake boarding on it while holding a rope that was tied to a tree. I found out the hard way that the river at that point is only about 5 ft deep.

Here's another one.

This dude is not a very good surfer, but it's cool that he's pulling it off.

Another one in Munich. I'm thinking my 6'0" quad fish would be the perfect board for this stuff.
