Am I alone in the fact that i never get hung over?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was reading the thread about tolerance to alcohol, and heard some people ssay they try to limit there alcohol intake so they don't get hung over.

I have never been hung over in my life, and actually i have only puked once in my life, and that was the first time i drank at age 14 or 15 and it was a whole pint of whiskey. I yacked on my way Carl's J and then i got a bunch of spicey chicken sandwiches.

I don't know if it's genetics, or the fact that im 220 lbs. I'm half irish and half german. Im also only 19, but i've kept up with my brother and his college buddies while drinking for bout 2 years now. Im talking about drinking 30 packs to each person a day and i can wake up at 6 am and go to work or start drinking again and be completely fine.

That's why i dont consider my self an alcoholic when i consume any where from a 30 pack to several 30 packs a week, beacuse i still get my S&!T done and wake up for school and work every day.

Any body else here not know what it feels like to be hung over?

You might be genetically talented, in the way that your body can efficiently handle alcohol metabolism by-products. The common knowledge is that this slows down as you age, so you'll probably know it in a few years.

Being able to handle massive amounts of beer on a regular basis without getting hung over doesn't really justify your conclusion that you're not an alcoholic. I'm not saying you are, but that's not the way to determine it at all.

Hangovers are mainly caused by dehydration, and beer has a lot of water in it (and this is why smart drunks chug water before going to bed). Try getting wasted on red wine or whiskey (and NOT throwing up, so as to keep the alcohol in the bloodstream) and I bet you'll feel something.

Beer gives me the worst headaches, and I've noticed I'm pretty unique in that sense. Give me wine (white is slightly better than red) or mixed drinks with vodka or gin, and I'll feel much better the following day than if I've had only beer. A while ago, when visiting Huntsville in Ontario, I had eight drinks (6 beers, 1 whisky, 1 mixed drink) in the evening between 6 and 12 o'clock. And while I didn't feel that drunk when I went to sleep, I felt really terrible in the morning and had to throw up. At noon I was starting to feel okay again. So mixed drinks for me please. They never give me headache, just make me feel a bit dizzy in the morning.

I didn't get a hangover until I was 20. I'm now 23 and I get real bad ones.

No, you're not alone. I don't get hangovers either, no matter how much I drink.

As noted, it's hardER to get hungover on beer alone. But, supposidly, you're drinking 30 PACKS (i.e. 6 packs?) a day? C'mon dude, that's more liquid than a whale could hold.
While I don't envy your alcoholism, I do think it'd be easy to not be hung over on beer alone. There's been many a saturday nights where a couple of buddies and I down 3 or 4 cases and none of us would be hung over the next day.
It also depends on how long you take to consume your drinks. The only time I've ever been hung over involved 3 beers and no less than 15 shots of rum (151, notably - we all can't remember how many it was excatly) all consumed in less than 90 minutes. I woke up the next day still drunk . The hang over didn't kick in until after lunch, regardless of the amount of water I was drinking after waking up.
Wanna have a hangover (IMO, a stupid endeavour), drink some hard alcohol. If you REALLY want to get screwed up, drink a couple of beers and then down a few shots (order is of importance here).

First few years I was drinking I was proud of the fact that I never got hangovers. That changed bigtime.

Being able to get away with drinking lots and not having to pay any consequenses is a great setup for huge drinking problems down the line. People I know with the worst and most insidious drinking problems are the ones who are able to stop once in a while, or don't get into TOO much trouble. Makes em believe there isn't any problem - regradless of what it's doing to their body, their lives, or the people around them. They can stop, anytime they want. And they go to work every day. That justifies everything else.

I suffered from fairly nasty Gastric Reflux, which runs in the family, for about four years (I'm 29) before I was prescribed Nexium - I've noticed that after a big night I still wake up feeling a bit "off", i haven't puked or woken up with a headache since I've started taking it. Two other people that I know (one male, one female) who also take it this drug have reported similar experiences.

i asked my doctor about it and he told me that it is a common "side effect".

So there you go...

In the same sentence, my doc also told me that if I cut out alcohol completely, my symptoms would most likely diminish drastically...

Never got hangovers until I stopped drinking often.

Now, I'll get them after more than a few beers.

My drummer claims he never gets hang overs, of course more than a few people consider him a practicing alcoholic......

I get hang overs just about every weekend. I only drink one beer a set, but I think the cigarette smoke messes with my sinus'.

You will - you will!!!

As people have said - when you're 19 you can drink as much as you like and it has no effect - but wait until you're 25 or 35 and it won't be the same at all!!

19 year olds have an uncanny ability to drink lots with no repercussions. Add the fact you are a big lad. Wait until you are a little older

I got hung over for the first time last year, after drinking less than usual.

It gets to you one way or another haha

Yeah, I don't drink anymore, But Lets put it this way , I was known as the "everdude" because of my fondness of corn whiskey, AKA "everclear". You HAVE to drink lots of H2O after that stuff...

Except on rare occasion, I really don't drink anymore, but some beer gives me a headache, others do not, regardless of alcohol content...

You're young. They will happen. No clue when, but it'll happen. I didn't start getting them until I was about 21 or so, and only when I'd drink entirely too much Jack Daniels. When I turned 25, drinking more than a few beers would get me a hangover and it lasted all day.
