Today shopping for a used car (07 Buick Lucerne) I go in to the dealer. The dealer meets me at the door and he is talking to me like I was a complete mental case, well i shrugged this off. He gave me a compliment, I love you car it is really nice! are you trading it in? (1993 Cutlass ceira muilt colored bad shape) I said no. and we go over looking at the Lucernes and I was looking at one and the dealer says this and i quote, " This are nice cars, They Come in Different colors!" Wow did i not know this? Was I completely clueless that cars came in different colors then red? well long story short i bought the blue car. I was gonna buy the red one till i found out i could get these in different colors

BTW, why buy used from a dealer and not private, particularly if you're not trading in your classic Ciera?

the "comes in different colors" thing is mind boggling. the last two cars ive bought i knew what i wanted, i knew the exact color, transmission, package, engine stats, everything. im not a gear head, but i know how to "work the google machine," to quote will ferrell.
to the best of my knowledge, the only cars that you are going to get in just one color would be something like a ferrari enzo, or maybe a handful of very, very high end cars, or maybe a fleet vehicle. they always seem to be white, but maybe they come in other colors.
i think i wouldve either laughed the guy off, or made some other very rude (but amusing to me) comment, and find some other salesman, but at least youre not and "idoit" and could get what you wanted. i still dont understand how anyone could just walk into a dealer and have them guide you through the cars, and find "whats best for you." thats pretty funny though. what a dumb guy. |

In 2003 I was looking at a Protege 5 (I still like that body style). When the salesman asked me what other brand(s) I was shopping, I told him the Impreza wagon. His response? "Cold weather car. You have no need for it here in SE Louisiana."
Really? So I asked what made it cold weather car. He went on about the all wheel drive and how it's made for snow. So I pushed further. Why? What are the benefits? He replied that it helps in low traction situations, like snow and ice.
"Huh", I replied. "I bet that would be very beneficial in a place where it rains all the time. Like HERE."
Morons. I passed on the Mazda and ended up with a Honda CR-V. I eventually bought a Subaru Forester a few years later and, surprise surprise, have found that the AWD has helped in a few near-hydroplaning situations. The dealer isn't there to find you the car you need. He's there to sell you the car they need sold.
