I was live Rick Rolled on New Years by my wife's Aunt...

She was telling some loud animated story like she always does. Most of us with her tuned out (she goes on some)... she segued into "you know *snapped her fingers a few times*... that song from the 80s... with the deep voiced British guy. All suave, dancing with himself."... AND BROKE OUT INTO THE CHORUS!!!

My sister-in-law and I both shouted 'Rick Rolled!' at the same time (no one else had any clue what we were talking about).

but yeah, Rick isn't all bad as a fluff pop singer.

I lived through it the first time this song was popular. Once was far too much.

Compared to other 'net pranks (goatse, lemonparty, tubgirl & compugeek) the RickRoll is a walk in the park.

His newer stuff is really jazzy/R&Bish. I quite like it. Rick Astley can really sing well live. Check it out:

...So you just announce it in a large Internet forum where you post with your full name in your signature.

I've always dug Astley's stuff, honestly. His music was produced (and written, I think) by a production group named Stock,Aitken, and Waterman. They did stuff for many other successful artists back in the 80's.

Much like their American contemporaries Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, they had a sonic signature that sometimes made everybody sound the same, but they created a well-executed body of work.

I'll admit, I was expecting that to segue into a Rick Roll.

I'd call that very smooth. I like his voice better in the Rick Roll song.

Ok-I clicked on him singing "Ain't to Proud to Beg" and I liked that better than the linked clip.
