So my brother bought Modern Warfare 2, and I just finished playing through it yesterday. I was entirely underwhelmed by it. There were definitely a few cool parts (I do enjoy the sniper missions that they put in these games), but the rest of it felt rushed, clunky, and worst of all, irritating. I shouldn't be annoyed by a game when I'm playing it. I should be absorbed in it the entire way through. But this game really, truly annoyed.
Additionally, the story was miserable (let's push you through it so quickly that you can't tell that it's full of holes and has no depth!), the hitboxes suck (if I shoot someone center mass twice, he should not be able to stand back up and shoot me point blank from behind), and the multiplayer is infuriating. I really don't understand what the huge fuss was about this game. I think the fact that they're charging $60 is a crime. It's nowhere near worth that much money, especially for how short the game was. Seriously, 4 hours? What happened to the days when a $50 game had 20 or 30 hours of gameplay?

But sorry, this game IS all about the online play.

the multiplayer is ok, but I am not good enough to play it, its basicaly full of super players that kill you in one hit before you even see them.

I really enjoy the multiplayer though. I like the kill streak awards and the weapons upgrades. Definitely increases the replay value.
I remember the days of Duke Nukem over a modem and ipx/spx protocols.

1) Lack of coop campaign (local and live)
2) No split screen online play
3) XBOX Live is viscous
I'm not good at this game so playing online never ends well. It sucks being the level 9 guy with one attachment unlocked that's trying to take down level 40 opponents with all of the good guns and scopes unlocked. But everyone has to start somewhere, right? Improving is a pretty good incentive to keep going.

XBOX Live Gamertag: LarryKingsShoes | I'm pretty sure that Xbox does a good job of matching opponents at around the same level. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've been doing all right. I'm at level 28 now I think.
I wish I could play multiplayer online using splitscreen. I can play with millions of other people around the world, but I can't play with my son sitting next to me. |

BUT, the game is extremely well presented, with lots of cool moments (spoiler alert*** like when you fall down when going to the chopper in the brazil level and you have to run unarmed, that was insanely cool). Infinity Ward have been very imaginative to make a FPS about war and make the campaign very original with lots of never seen before moments (like the riot shields part in the prison level). The fact that they were able to make such a great game around such a ridiculously weak story is very impressive. I was totally immersed by the game all the way. I played the campaign on hard and it took me around 8 hours, which is shorter than most games, but this one was very intense and concentrated while some other games you have to travel for longgg distances and have some very useless puzzles (I'm looking at you Half Life 2 and Bioshock). This game is 100% pure FPS. No real strategy, only reflexes and skills.
Also, this game is all online play. As a looooonnnnnnnnnnng time Counter Strike fan, I was really not a home with this game. In CS, you need to be able to headshot someone at 100 feet with the deagle, and it's very very rare someone will be under 20 feet from you, and the recoil is almost exaggerated. Well here, in MW2, people run in my face and kill me. There are much much more places to hide than in CS, so I get killed lots of time because I'm a noob and I don't know where people hide. Also, the RPG elements of the game makes it what it is: the unlockables, the add ons and above all the perks. It really helps to develop a class centered on a certain gameplay you like.
The only problem I have with MW2 is that there are not enough multiplayer maps.
I play on the PC version BTW.

You shoot people in the gut, they get up and run away...Since when?Kills the realism (as if there's any)
And I had to modify game files to turn off the crosshair and music.
Those are lame...
ps:Check out this thread if you want realism. Call Of Duty MW:3

I haven't finished the campaign yet, but I'm anything but underwhelmed. Yes, it may be a little short, but I love the idea of fighting off an invasion on American soil. It's something that really hasn't been done much.

The online pissed me off to no end when I started but I was up to like level 11 when I had to return the game and it was starting to get fun....except for one thing
the lack of a server browser is total BS. It sucks having to be in a lobby waiting for others and then you finally get a room full and for some odd reason you get kicked from the lobby.
If I had $60 I'd probably buy it...I might wait and buy it used sometime down the line.

i get it.. they see gamers as nerds with no friends that are going to eat chipotle all day and play online with 50 people at a time all day. hence the giant maps and crappy weapons. beat the game first, then go maul people online.
im sick of online gaming. no one is ever mid level. its either noobs or nerds. when i occasionally want to play, its not fun. they ruined multiplayer in the process.. which sucks for those of us that actually HAVE friends to play video games with.
i see us switching back to MW1 and W@W in a hurry.

Look, I got tons of friend, I don't even play that much MW2 (like 3 times a week, 1 or 2 hours each time) and get killed, a lot. But, like with other games I've played, it took me more time than most since I don't dedicate as much time as others, but at least I continue playing until I get good, very good. Did it with CSS, TF2, quake live, etc... If you just don't have the patience, fine, don't insult people who like to put effort in what they do.
