Am I the only person who is sick of the Olympics?

Seriously, I HATE the Olympics with a passion. Why in their right mind would ANYONE want to watch a load of idiots throwing things, running about and jumping about? It costs a fortune to go and watch it as well, and at the end of it all London will be left with a load of facilities that no-one will use!

You then have the news channels and newspapers covering it like their lives depend upon it, or there's nothing else worth reporting.

It's just pointless.

Why spend loads of money watching elitist morons do sport when you can go outside and do sport yourself?

Do some research into how much money it will bring into London then tell me that it is a waste.

I get what you are saying. The summer Olympics are boring. Unfortunately my gf was a cross country runner for a few years, and she only gave it up a couple of years ago. Therefore, she loves all of the athletics stuff.

The winter Olympics? Now you are talking!!! A load of people throwing themselves down giant tubes of ice on tea-trays? That is what I call sport!

Also, for the London Olympics, us Brits are going to be expected to be patriotic and stuff. What a waste of the tax-payers money!!!

I DO do sports, karate, fencing, running and the odd bit of kayaking.

I still like watching the olympics as you can see what the competitions are like at the higher levels instead of always getting the same thing, and if you do do the sports you can get heroes and inspiration seeing what the professionals are like.

On the other hand if you dont do sports they might inspire you do actually go out and do some sports instead of lazing around watching tv.

What i'm making reference to by the word 'elitist' is the athletes. I've met country-level athletes in my uni (we have an elite athlete squad) and they are the biggest posers and losers I've met. They ONLY hang around with other athletes, worry constantly about their kit/training/the weather and fret because they can't go out training or find a salad with less than 1 calorie.

I like the olympics, especially the olympic weight lifting events.

If you dont like it, dont get involved, but there will be alot of money being brought into the country by it.

And if you think athetes like that only hanging out with other athletes is something special, what about musicians who only hang out with other musicians etc. It happens, people will make a connection with people which they have a common interest with . . .

Why go see "elitist morons" playing music when you can pick up your bass and do it yourself?

I knew a two time Olympic runner and she wasn't an elitist snob like the people you describe. She was very well liked, was friendly with everyone and she certainly didn't eat salads.

I'm sick of concerts; why watch people play music when I could do it on my own? Hell, I'm better than most of them anyway!

Edit: Darkstrike beat me to it.

As opposed to us bassists who don't give a damn' about our gear or don't practice and train our hands and fingers.

Music isn't something training alone brings you, or eating the right foods or some lucky genetics. It takes practice, a certain degree of talent, emotion and expression.

Athletics holds no emotion- all it is is a load of idiots running about/jumping etc. Music is someone's personality.

You are funny. Don't go bashing on someone else's passion just because you don't enjoy it. You might not like sports, but a lot of other people in the world do.

I personally don't like the Olympics or sports, but it's cool if other people like it. I just don't pay attention to it, as I only visit a very small number of websites and rarely watch TV.
