Am I right to be scared? Story inside...

We were having band practice in my garage tonight with the garage door wide open. It had been dark for about half an hour. A white car with the windows down slooooowly passed by... we noticed it and thought "huh, that's weird." Then a minute later the same white car came back from the other direction, sloooowly, and came to a stop in the street. The driver shouted out in a slurred voice:

"what are youse guys jamming?"
"Rush."
"ohhh thaz cool... whaz yer band name?"
"We're still working on it. Any suggestions?"
"whatever, man... hey, do you know any queen?"
"No."
"oh.... alright. see ya later."

Then he drive off.

At first we just thought it was some drunk guy who stopped to talk to us, but it just hit me that he might have been scoping out our gear. We had all of our stuff right out in the open, and I'm sure he got a great look at my Fender P-bass and Bassman amp. I don't live in the greatest of neighborhoods, and now I'm a little scared that someone will be making an attempt to enter my house and take my gear. I don't want to go to sleep. Help put me at ease, Talkbass members... am I just being paranoid or does this kind of thing really happen?

Hmm... I don't know about you, but if it were me I'd play it safe and pull an all-nighter... or at least hide your gear somewhere safe.

How did that guy look like? Did he have grease all over his white shirt and saggy jeans? Or did he look like if he was the greatest musician on earth?

If it was the first one, I would be scared.

Yeah I'd love to pull an all-nighter and keep on the lookout, but I have work in the morning. I might have been able to sleep a couple hours in the mid/late morning and then work my normal afternoon shift if I hadn't offered just today to cover for a colleague's morning shift. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Haha Honestly I didn't really get a good look at him, so maybe he IS just a guy who appreciates small-time rock and roll bands. But something tells me that's not the case.

Or, it could be that he just wanted to listen to some good music! 2 blocks down on my street a rockabilly band was practicing in a garage. They were great. My neighbor and I grabbed a couple of beers and walked down to listen. When we got there, other neighbors were out listening. It was like a free concert.

put it in the basement and lock it up? I'm sure you can find a way to chain lock evrything to somewhere discreet.
