Am I weird for liking Christmas songs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Happy Holidays.

I'm Jewish, but I love Christmas songs. I'm not talking about the novelty songs like "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer" or "Santa Baby" although I do like Cheech & Chongs "Santa Claus & His Old Lady. I'm talking about the old Christmas songs by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Etc. My parents and most of my friends think I'm nuts, a Jewish kid liking Christmas music. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas my radio is tuned to Christmas stations almost all day.

Any thoughts, any one..........

No.... you're not weird.... yet.

If you still like them three weeks from now, you are psycho and will need to be put down.

Extremely weird.

But than again, I despise most holiday music. Don't know why.. Perhaps the extremes of being either really happy or really depressing. The cliche tunes and the over used concepts.

How many songs suggest that the only thing someone wants for Christmas is "you, baby" (unless of course you are wishing you had your two front teeth because of that bar brawl last week....)

There's nothing wrong with that. Listen to old Sinatra and Crosby is where it's at.

It's not "I am weird for liking Christmas songs?", it should be "Am I weird for liking Christmas songs?". There, now that we've got the Grammar Nazi thing out of the way, it's strictly a matter of opinion. Yes, I do think you're weird for liking Christmas songs, but that's only because I don't like them to begin with. If I liked them , then I'd say you weren't weird. Like I said, it's strictly a matter of opinion. Take it for what it's worth and you keep on liking those Christmas songs to your heart's content!

Interesting choice of words, mate....

As someone who doesn't like Christmas music in the first place, I'd say yes, you are weird, religion aside.

You might want to check out B. E. Taylor. He has been around a long time with The B. E. Taylor group and other bands but he does both studio and live Christmas albums and also live concerts putting new sounds to traditional Christmas songs. Donnie Iris appears on some songs with him on CD. PBS TV Network is currently running a live B. E. Taylor Christmas concert from a few years ago that is great.

I love Christmas songs from Thanksgiving Day - January 1 and not a moment before or after. I have an immense hatred for how early Christmas gets started. It was all I could do to stop my g/f from putting up the tree the day before Thanksgiving this year.

I don't think it's odd. I used to be in a folk duo with a nonpracticing Jew. Starting in November, he tended to drive everyone around him crazy because all he wanted to play was Christmas songs.

Also, quite a few popular Christmas songs were written by Jewish folks: The Jews Who Wrote Christmas Songs - InterfaithFamily.com

I enjoy them when they come on the radio. But, I have never played one just to listen to it. That would be weird (by the way, what ever happened to "I" before "E" except after "C" and sometimes "Y" ? Shouldn't weird be spelled wierd?)

I've always loved listening to Christmas songs, and listen to them constantly throughout November and December. And I'm basically an atheist. They just go with having a strong affection for the holidays, and that affection doesn't have to be rooted in any specific religion.
