Since I am a student, I remember being able to get the "Prime" shipping benefits of having free two day shipping, but does this mean I also get to reap the benefits of free movies?

I must look into this more.

EDIT:

Quote:
As an Amazon Student member you already receive:

* FREE Two-Day Shipping with no minimum order size
* One-Day Shipping for $3.99/item
* E-mail alerts for exclusive deals and promotions from Amazon Student

Upgrade to a paid Amazon Prime membership for $79/year to also get:

* Unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows

They should give out free movie tickets instead.

Are you crazy? Ask people to leave their homes and go outside?

It's a shame the selection currently sucks.

You checked all 5,000+ titles, and couldn't find one you liked?

It's not that, it's just overall the selection isn't that big. A lot of the titles I really like, I own. There's hardly any new titles in there for me to check out (more thanks to the studios than anything). For $79/yr it's not that bad though. I was going to drop my Prime membership, but I might keep it for awhile to see how this goes. NetFlix has a better selection, but their's isn't all that great either.

Yeah, but these are all queued up and ready to stream to you from any computer with a fast internet connection. I can't say that about the 30 or 40 movies I own.

I have used Prime for a couple years and will continue to for the shipping benefits. This is a cool bonus, but I doubt I will ever use it.

Funny thing about that... every movie I own lives on my NAS here. I don't even need an internet connection to watch them. I turn on any computer in my house, and I can access every movie I own and watch them as I like. Same with my TV shows and music.

Anyone know if this will work with a PS3? I currently have Netflix, and that's how I watch it, on my TV thru my PS3. As I also have a Prime membership, this might be a way to save 8 bucks a month, LOL!

I'm thinking about Prime membership, just for the free 2 day shipping. Although living in the Seattle-ish area a lot of my orders get here about that soon anyway.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if they have any content which Netflix doesn't.

As a Amazon stockholder, I highly recommend everyone become Prime Members.

Amazon increased content for the streaming video collection. There was an announcement about it on the website this morning when I logged in to my account.

Yeah but what about the movie popcorn?

I'm a Prime member too. Thanks for the heads up.

I have watched some movies with their service, and it is great. Even on my Droid.

Amazon announced today that they have improved their streaming video offering for Prime members. This is a cut and paste from the website....

Dear Customers,

Our Prime Instant Video team is on a roll. Today, we're announcing an agreement with Disney-ABC that adds 800 popular titles from ABC Studios, The Disney Channel, ABC Family, and Marvel. These new titles will bring the total to almost 13,000 TV shows and movies — all available for unlimited instant streaming.

The popular series Lost and Grey’s Anatomy will be ready for streaming tomorrow. Then, we’ll add other favorites including Felicity, The Disney Channel’s Phineas & Ferb, Marvel’s X-Men Evolution, and ABC Family shows like Greek and episodes from the most current season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Disney-ABC joins recently announced deals with FOX, CBS, NBC-Universal, and PBS — just to name a few. We’ve added shows like Arrested Development, Firefly, The X-Files, every series of Star Trek, and Prison Break. You can watch on over 300 different devices, including our new Kindle Fire. Instant video streaming is a new benefit of Amazon Prime and is brought to you at no additional cost — Prime membership remains $79 a year.

I'm really stoked about being able to watch the X-Files. I can watch that show over and over and over again without getting bored.

-Mike
