My mom and my aunt are taking a road trip down into Maine in a few days, and they've both agreed to bring back their allowed liquor quota in beer for me. So I'd like to take this opportunity to bring back some great American beers that I can't get up here.
Any suggestions/recommendations/favorites that I should consider?
I'm going to get a couple different kinds of Sam Adams, but that's pretty much all I know of.
So let's hear it. |

Magic Hat - Fat Angel
Wolavers - Brown Ale
Wolavers - Oatmeal Stout
Otter Creek - Stovepipe Porter
Another readily available American standard is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. For American Pale's this is basically the standard other's in that style are judged by. British Pale's are an entirely different story...

You mentioned "Maine" I don't know that they sell it that far north though (River Horse is based in Pennsylvania). It's worth a look though. I did see it in Rhode Island...hopefully it's migrated north from there http://www.riverhorse.com/our_beer/o...pel_horse.html

Seriously, you probably can't find it in Maine, but Shiner Bock from Texas is great.

Thanks for some local suggestions, too. |

+1. Shiner is available in several states now, but I dunno how far north they've made it.
Another +1 to Dogfish Head 60 minute.
Stone Arrogant Bastard may be a bit too hearty for the summer, but it's a fantastic brew.
