I would say that we've squandered an opportunity to learn more about universal human behaviors, but perhaps we have learned something about people; it's just not very flattering.

As someone who teaches world history, the Andaman Islanders have interested me for a while. They are clearly some of the earliest human populations to have inhabited Asia. It is interesting that although they look like African Pygmies, genetic testing has shown them to be more closely related to their neighbors in Asia. Some genetic testing has also shown ties to Egyptian populations.

Well, I can understand genuine curiosity, in this day and age that is a rare situation. But where there is money to be made through exploitation unfortunately someone is going to pick up on it.

Anyway, I hope the arrest will restore the balance the Islanders know.
