It did not take long, since comics proved success.
I have not seen Speed Racer, but Dream Works has plans for Ghost In A Shell & Dragon Ball. I also read that Death Note looks like a likely candidate for a US movie version. http://www.variety.com/VR1117984029.html
DreamWorks has acquired rights to the Japanese manga "Ghost in the Shell" with plans to adapt the futuristic police thriller as a 3-D live-action feature.
I really have doubts how they can live up to the anime or manga.

Ugh. Wasn't there supposedly a live "Appleseed" movie being made at one time? I think alot of stuff with mech could be done well (think Patlabor, Voltron) but unless there is actual story and good acting, forget those too.
But leave Ghost alone.
Now a live action Sailor Moon involving busty porn stars...I'm in. |

| | | | I agree, but thought the same of Iron man.
Maybe for Ghost they can film real jumping spiders?
I dont know how they can better the anime of Death Note. It has to be one of the best films ever as far as camera angles, effects etc.
I heard they have a play based on Bleach in Japan?
Anyone see it? |

DiCaprio? What, as Kaneda? Tetsuo? Shoot me now.
Make him one of the biker clowns that gets offed in the openning chase and I'll be happy. |

It's kind of funny how lately instead of adapting movies from around the world (mainly Japan) and doing them fair justice, Hollywood has just decided to do outright remakes. I mean, the good adaptation has been going on for years (most of Akira Kurosawa's material), but this is getting a little out of hand.

| | | | I just can't picture any of these movies with anything other than the nationalities portrayed.
Ever see the horror movie "the bunker". It is about German WWII soldiers left in a bunker that all speak really heavy British accents, but portraying Germans.
It's just wrong in my opinion. |

A: Movie magic.
B: Quite simply, they couldn't really give one tenth of a turd as to whether they're going to make a mockery out of the source material because they know that nerds like us are going to show up regardless.

Sorry to derail, but Hollywood just can't stop trashing revered works, and Akira has been a fave of mine for many many years... geez, leave it be. The original cannot be topped. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
