Annoying bill collectors

Sign in to disble this ad
I keep getting calls from a bill collector (IC Systems) twice a day, every day. I always screen the call, but it's getting very annoying, and I want them to stop it. Is there some law, or anything else I can tell them to stop them from calling me so often?

BTW I don't want to discuss anything about why a bill is in collection, or anything like that. That's my business only.

Best way to get them to stop calling is to pay your bill, or at least work out a payment plan with them.

Each state has laws on how often and when you can receive phone calls from bill collectors. Find out your state laws and make sure the company is not exceeding them.

You can also send them a letter (the kind that you put in an envelope and then put in that magical box by the road at the end of your driveway) requesting no further contact via telephone. They will have to respect that and will only be able to contact you via letter.

Any improper activity, like excessive phone calls, threats, rudeness, should be reported to your state Attorney General.

+1 on what smiley said. Been/going through this...best way-answer phone. Tell the speaking device you have no money, "what can we do?" They'll try to get the most they can out of you but don't let 'em! Just keep in touch with those people and they won't call so much. I made that mistake once and it makes things difficult down the road. Ask them to call back in a month, maybe you'll have some money.

You're asking an internet forum about how to get a debt collection service to stop calling you. Think about that for a second.

A quick search of IC Systems online shows they typically deal with medical bills in collections and eBay accounts in collections.

Change your phone number. My Mom told a bill collector that used to call the home all the time that I moved away and didnt leave a forwarding number.

Medical bills?

A classic high friction tear to the epidermis? Can be pretty expensive if its recurring...

Pay the bill. It's my business as one who pays his bills to say that.

If you want them to leave you alone, just pay your bill.

What collections agencies do is buy people's debt from other companies for a fraction of the cost and then try to collect the most they can because that equates to a higher return. There's a minimum amount that they can accept if you want to settle with them, and if I was you, I would just try to lowball them to find out what that minimum is.

I hate it cause now they come to my house. Now, one day I am gonna be by myself, get scared and shoot someone! Nah, j/k, but I don't think they should be allowed to come to your house. To me that is trespassing!

Well, paying the bill helps, but you already knew that.

Back when I was in debt, I managed to block every phone line the company had. They couldn't contact me if they wanted to. Then I leisurely paid off the debt on my schedule. No consequences whatsoever.
