Another gaming thread: Wii games that aren't shovelware?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, to make the story short, I've had a Wii for a while now, and the games I actually have, I dig (Godfather, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports/Play, AMF Pinbusters, House of the dead, thats all I can remember for now).

After trying out out the new Bust-A-Move Bash (horrible because unlike the 64 version where they actually HAD a multiplayer this is just time attack), and Rayman Raving Rabbids (Come on, I can't even be over six feet from the console to get the motion working?) on recommendation, I want to know what games you guys have that you wouldn't consider shovelware. I do a lot of gaming with the Gamecube controller, so if you can name a few other new names than the ones listed, that would be awesome.

The new Wario Land is fun, but short. It's a rental for sure. Sega Superstars Tennis is also a good game for the pricetag.

Have you played Zelda?

Zelda I have the gamecube version. yea, and I wanna get away from all my gamecube titles for a while, cuz right now I'm pulling them out too often. The controller I love tho. lol

Wario's new game struck me as fun...

House of the Dead is an awesome package! And the new Animal Crossing doesn't look too bad. Thats about all though! My Wii never gets used.

I have seen the new Animal Crossing and it really is just a rehash of the DS version. I think the Wii even boots up in Gamecube mode to play it.

I think Nintendo pulled a fast one and put a Gamecube game on a Wii disc, the sytem has to update the second you put the disc in and it sees the disc as a Gamecube game until after the update and then the Nintendo magic sees it as a Wii game.

Nintendo could've done a better job with the backwards compatibility feature. I mean the remote doesn't work to reset/turn on/off when you play a gamecube game? what is that?

I think the Wii was meant to be a casual gamer console, at which it more than succeeds.
As a result it's hard to find really good, long lived games.

true, but we can still say that those games are published, no? I'd think smaller names than the obvious company reps are put in the corner. And it's apparent I can't trust IGN anymore, as they'll give a game a bad review simply for being difficult.

Haven't followed them too closely lol. oh, and you know, if they find a game worth playing that isn't AAAAA they might just not review it out of spite.

I (my kids) have Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2 and I've purchased Rayman House Party for them for Christmas. The first two are an absolute hit in my house and we don't have any range issues like you describe.

They also have all the Mario game you mentioned and then some. WiiFit is cool as heck if you can find it.

I also bought Tomb Raider - Underground for me and me alone. I'll have to let y'all know about that after I get a chance to spend some time with it.

I was playing the WIi recently. it reminded me of those online flash games that you play for like 5 mins and get bored of.

I'd say get a decent console to get some decent games.

If you haven't played it before, get Resident Evil 4 for the Wii. It's amazing.

Most definetly, Nintendo have moved away from their gamer audience.

Star Wars: the Force Unleashed
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Super Paper Mario

I have not played the next 3, but I plan on getting them soon
Mario: Super Sluggers
Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars (Claypool wrote music on this one)
James Bond: Quantum of Solace

I also play a lot of gamecube games on my wii, and they are always pretty cheap since they are used.

Agreed.

Except flash games don't cost $40 - $60. Wii is a joke, it's basically just a gamecube with a slightly upgraded processor and a gimmicky controller in a new sleek casing. If it came out 8 years ago it might be something to talk about. Expecting non shovelware from a casual gaming toy is unrealistic. If you want real gameplay with current generation capabilities buy a 360 or a PS3.

The Wii lineup has been so pitiful I'm almost considering getting rid of mine.

I might just sell it and use the funds to get a PS3 (already have a 360).

3rd party developpers are seriously dropping the ball on the wii games and it really is a shame. I keep hearing titles that sound interesting to see that they basically all but neutered them(resident evil rail shooter now? pathetic). Especially considering the massive amounts of wii's sold.. You'd think a few dev's would at least test the waters with some rumors about something cool.

Still, there are a handful of games I'd love to check out on the system. One of which is Okami, a game that got rave reviews when it was released on the ps2 at the near end of it's life cycle but unfortunately didn't make a big sales impact for whatever reason and the original developers disappeared. The game mechanics of the game and the wii seem like an utter match made in heaven and I'm overjoyed to see that they did port the game to the wii. So much so I'm considering getting a wii simply for that game alone. I hope it's selling well on the wii, I'd love to see them continue the saga
