Actually being able to play bass or guitar is a hindurance. I missed notes or jumped early cuz thats how the timing of the song would actually go. I turned all the sound off, and while it was much less fun this way, i hit all the notes perfectly. The game has nothing to do with a real guitar. |

If you put it on expert, there's going to be a ton of notes, but it will fit the song pretty well for the most part. |

No duh dude. The game is not marketed as a guitar replacement. It is not even for sale in the musical instrument section of a store, you find it for sale in the VIDEO GAME section. Just relax and have some fun with the game and quit the "this game isn't like a real bass/guitar" blabber.

Same goes with playing Madden....it isn't like real football. Heck, I'll even say the same for shooting games. Shooting on a game like Call of Duty is not like shooting a real machine gun. All of those games are just lame, lame, lame.

one of my fav songs on GHIII is stevie ray vaughn's pride and joy.
It was one of the first songs I learned on bass and have played it live a few times when I sit in.
playing it on expert on guitar was frustrating at first because there was just SOO much more too it .. now with all the cool rythm changes and beats that get played on it it's just fun to play

| Have you been in a GC lately?....Thats the first thing you see when you walk in, loads of these games. I guess thats my issue, it does seem like its being sold as a replacement for guitar, or a way to practice. Ive even seen dudes, who I think were semi serious, post on craigs list locally saying they beat the game on expert and are now looking for a real band. I have been told on expert the timing is much better. Id have no problem with this game if people wernt taking it seriously, but they are. |

so only in a social situation.
I've only played about 5 or six times but I'm playing on hard these days. I have no desire to play anything on expert. too much work for something I only play when I'm intoxicated IMO. |

In every store I have been to, you can locate the entire GH franchise right next to all of the other video games.

If I have to go into practice mode and slow that solo way down to get the button sequence right to not fail out of the song... I'd rather go practice bass. I don't mind a bit of a challenge in the game, but I don't want to work so hard for a videogame.

If you didn't waste your time on GH, you could play the bass 3 or 4 hours a day instead of 2 or 3.
I've heard all the "it's just a game and it's fun" arguments but, in my opinion, GH is totally stupid and anyone who bought it would have been better off buying a real musical instrument. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it.

So far, I have beat the game on "easy" which wasn't much of a challenge. I haven't started medium yet, because I don't play it that much. I agree knowing how to play is a hinderance, due to the timing issues. It's just a game. All you people who get all angry over it should do a shot or take a xanax or something. |

My 11 year old son has his own jazz bass (copy), plus he plays the baritone in middle school band, my 6 year old daughter has her own short scale P bass copy, my 12 year old daughter has her own piano, and has been taking lessons for 4 years now. My 2 year old, well, she's too young to care, other than to try and steal the controllers from the other kids.
So yeah, I guess I should take the Guitar Hero games away from my kids. Rather than let them have their fun with the video games, I'll continually force them to do nothing but practice "real" instruments, to the point where they resent me for doing it, and absolutely detest the thought of picking up a real instrument.
Or, I can continue to let them be kids and play their video games once in awhile. And continue to encourage them and help them along with their real instruments (which, by the way, they are actually every bit as interested in as any video game or anything else they have).
