Another LCD TV Thread

Inspired by varunkapahi's computer moniter thread.

Okay, so my dinosaur of a TV crapped out on me. For the moment I'm borrowing a friends spare, but my wife and I want to pick up an LCD TV from Wally World (Walmart ) as an X-mas present to ourselves and they seem to have the best deals.

I'm looking for a 32 inch and would like some opinions on which one is going to give me the longest life with no dead pixels. Selection at Wally World seems a little limited. What I remember is Vizio, Emerson, Samsung (I think). Perhaps there are others.

The Samsung stuff is great. My parents have a 48" that looks fantastic and I'm looking at a 32" for myself.

The Samsungs tend to be great especially at their price point.

I got my 27 inch from Newegg for around 225 shipped with a wall mount.

Wal-Mart is cheap. Newegg is cheaper. Most companies use the same LCD's produced only by a couple of factories.

Newegg doesn't pay salesmen or retail rent.

Samsung is the best quality at the 2nd highest price point, IMO. All of my LCD's, both monitors and televisions have been Samsungs, except for the Sharp in my living room. Sharps are expensive, Samsung provides a phenomenal value for the money

I didn't much care for the Sharp LCD's I've seen. Of your choices, Samsung hands down.

I know you can find good deals online, but with this kind of purchase I suggest you buy B&M with a lenient return policy. None of those TV's are going to look the same in your room as they do at the store. I know Costco has made changes to their electronics return policy, but they still have a ton to pick from that you can take for a test drive.

As for actually buying one.....this Friday will probably be your best shot of the year.

I have a 46" Samsung (series 6 I believe) and its great. When I first got it there was 1 stuck pixel and I phoned them up and it was swapped straight away no questions asked. I haven't had any problems with the picture quality etc and its great for playing Xbox. The only annoying thing is I have the Samsung 2.1 DVD player / receiver and its only got one digital input which is annoying if you want to route your xbox and cable etc all through it. The any-net linking with Samsung products is also a little bit annoying as it means that just to eject a CD / DVD switches the TV onto DVD mode as well.

I just got a Samsung 40" 1080p, 120hz and it is amazing. My wife and I stood at 4 different retailers for about 3 hours looking a pictures on LCD's, and every place we went, the Samsung's had the best picture.
