This picture was taken at the Peterson Automotive Museum some months back. I may just have to go back and take notes IF the car is even still there. |

The wheels are steel with a hub cap, so that's era correct. The hood lines are not vette nor is the bumper, but the hub caps have a "chevy" look to them but, again, the windshield, while "vette-ish" has the mirror mounted on the windscreen frame. Vettes of the 50's were dash mounted. I almost lean in the Studebaker direction. They had pretty forward looking designs. This could have been a concept car for the company. They "borrowed" features from other makers. That front bumper is almost certainly off a 55' Studebaker president and modified.

Cobra
Motorama Custom
This Cobra is one of three originally built by brothers Wally and Harry Hansen. The first two debuted at the 1955 Petersen Motorama while the third was built later for a personal friend of the Hansens. All three had identical hand-formed fiberglass bodies mounted on custom chassis and were powered by high compression V-8 engines from either Oldsmobile or Cadillac. Weighing a mere 2840 pounds, this Cobra, which is equipped with an Oldsmobile power unit, was capable of accelerating to approximately 90 miles per hour in the quarter mile. To save cost and reduce complexity, all three cars were built with available mechanical parts from several American automobile manufacturers including Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Studebaker. Like many other such cars of the day, this Cobra was modified over time and required a complete restoration to return it to its original custom configuration. Though the name is the same, the Hansen Cobras are not related in any way to the Shelby badged cars introduced in 1962.
