Any Cirque du Soleil fans here?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've seen a lot of advertisements for Cirque du Soleil's "Ką" show at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Has anyone seen this yet, and if so, would it be worth a road trip from Phoenix to go see (along with the other regular CDS shows there)?

Heck yeah. But before making a road trip, I'd ask them (via their website) if they have any plans to pitch tent nearer to you. Phoenix might be big enough to be on their tour schedule.

I wish Phoenix had a stage that could accommodate a show like that. The description of MGM Grand's stage on the Wiki is freakin' nuts! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%A0

I've had the pleasure of seeing two of their touring shows so far; there's really nothing else like them on earth.

I am a HUGE CDS fan!!!

I've not seen "Ka" (I've heard that it's awesome, tho) but I've seen a bunch of others, namely ...
  • La Nouba
  • Allegria
  • O (Vegas)
  • Mystere (Vegas)
  • Love (Beatles show in Vegas)

I can tell you that "Love" is worth making a special trip to Vegas to see, especially if you're a big Beatles fan --and if you aren't, you might become one after seeing this show.

If you've never seen CDS, then "Mystere" would also be worth the trip. I was underwhelmed by "O" but other folks like it a lot.

Cirque du Soleil is an amazing feast for the senses!

I saw Ka and thoroughly enjoyed it. Those guys are nuts. The stage is unreal.

Want to see them badly! And talk about a dream job! They always have job openings for musicians, and bass is sometimes one of those instruments.

Hmm.....

I've seen "O" and it's absolutely amazing. Would go and see it again in a heartbeat. The music is really good too. Excellent musicians.

I also saw "O" and was amazed. I'm not a theater/show guy and was completely unprepared for what I saw. I was floored.

Well, I live in Las Vegas, and I've seen a couple of there shows, specifically Love, O, Mystere, and Ka. The big four. All were AMAZING. Definitely worth a road trip. I would also have to suggest blue man group if you are into percussion. Very cool stuff.

I saw Allegria this past spring and loved it. I'm also surprised that Phoenix doesn't have a large enough stage/arena that could handle Cirque. If they can tour to Winnipeg's MTS centre then I would assume they could do it pretty much anywhere with a 13 000 seat venue...

Of those 4 which was the best? I'd like to know for next time. If I went today I'd probably see Love.

Saw La Nouba last year, certainly one of the best live shows I've seen. The band is bitchen, BTW

Yeah me too. I'm not a theater guy either. But this show blew my mind.

I've seen O 3 times, Ka twice, Mystere once and Zumanity once. If you can only see one, I would suggest 'O'. Even though I think Ka is a lot more exciting, O is just an all around great expierience.

btw, I have only seen the traveling shows on video, but there is nothing like seeing a show in a $100 million theatre designed exclusively for the show.

This is my favorite routine from La Nouba (including some kicka$$ bass playing!) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK7XFEmYUGk

This is also an illustration of why you HAVE to see CDS live. This video does not do this routine justice. In person, you are sitting there with your mouth open -- especially during the last 2 minutes of this routine..

Sometimes, yes. A good friend of mine MD's some of their shows; he just got back from Maccau and is headed to NY for a new show. Submitted my package to them a while back so he thinks there might be some openings in the future. It's a good company to work for so like most good gigs, guys who land the chair tend to stay a looooong time.

Buddy of mine has done Alegria for 12 years !!!!
He's now MD'ing another show in Vegas.

Can't count the number of friends who went on tour for them.
CDS is a very big employer around here.
