Any experience with Well Drilling/Drillers

Looks like I will not be able to stay where I am long term. I'm still looking for a place to set up shop since homelessness sucks.

For those who don't know, I have some severely limiting health issues that force me to stay in remote areas. In many of the areas where I may be able to live relatively safely, the only parcels available do not have a well in place or a well share available. I don't want to have to go through the well drilling process or the gamble involved but may not have a better alternative.

I may try to make a deal where I pay for a land owner to put in a well while I hold an iron clad contract that allows me to purchase the parcel if the well comes in to my satisfaction or to walk away if the well is a bust. Of course, I will loose the cost of the drilling which will be a lot of $. Wells in many areas around here run 500 - 600 feet deep.

I don't know what to think and I have no personal experience with any of this. Anyone have any well drilling success or horror stories. All stories welcome though I am especially interested in stories form the American Southwest.

TIA,
S

Good luck with that. Most well drilling companies are familiar with the local geography and will give you a good estimate on where you can drill and how many gal/hr you can expect to get. Id call the company and have them come out and take a look at the parcel.

I work with groundwater wells but primarily for monitoring purposes. They're usually relatively shallow (20' to 75' deep). I don't know much about production wells.

Having said that, getting a geophysical survey of the property could tell you how deep groundwater is...it'd be a heck of lot cheaper than drilling what may be a dry hole. Failing that, a well drilling company familiar with the area should be able to give a ballpark estimate of what would be involved.

...also, it's my understanding that people who dig wells typically have very frigid posteriors.

I will talk to drillers and also look at drilling records with the counties and state dept of water resources. Still, this feels like playing in Vegas
