I am, and I can't tell if it's affecting me negatively.... I am having more and more trouble tolerating other people's use and abuse, and there's a lot of it on this island. You know how it is, too... they never think it's a problem

Do you mean that you're in AA, and it's hard to watch others go down the same path you did?

This is kinda what I was thinking- my father is a recovering alcoholic, so I know a little about this stuff.

Take care of yourself. If you see somebody trying to figure it out, help however you can.

My drummer's ~5 months in, and from an outsider's viewpoint, his life seems much better. There's plenty of partying in San Diego too, especially when your hobby involves playing rock clubs. I don't necessarily agree with all the philosophy of the program, but from what I can tell, the results seem like a positive so far.

It's a tough road for sure.
Just keep the focus on yourself and keep fighting the good fight, don't worry about what others are doing. It can drive ya nuts!

It sounds like you could use some serenity to accept the things you can't change . . .

Seriously, if it happens outside the confines of your own head then it is probably out of your control. You can either accept the behavior of others or change your situation/location. Either way, taking other people's inventories is a waste of your time.

22 years in. You cannot change anybody but yourself. Don't worry about what other people are doing, worry about what you are doing. I could care less abut other people getting wasted. I just do not hang with them.

If other people's partying is bothering you, there is something going on with you. Go talk to your sponsor.

My partner here at work is a friend of Bill. 7yrs sober for him. Just based on the things he talks to me about, ignore the guys who don't want to change, and be there for the guys that do. Other than that, focus on your goal and be proud of yourself for taking charge of your own health and the safety and happiness of your loved ones.

I'll be there in a few months for my honeymoon. I would say we should meet up or something, but most likely I'll be wasted the entire time Im there.

What other people do really shouldn't be any concern at all for you. Worry about your own issues. As far as Bill W. goes, I know plenty of people who are addicted to AA. Take away their meetings and they're like lost little sheep. Trading one crutch for another really. If alcohol is a problem for you, just quit drinking. I don't buy the "It's a disease" bs either.

Perhaps, but which "drug" would you rather have them on?

What do I care. I worry about my problems myself. If AA works for you, great. As long as you don't preach it to me or act like you are better than me because you don't drink/use drugs. I am not the one who had such a problem with it I felt the need to get into some "program". Every person I know who does AA is like this. Excuse me, but I don't need advice from a junkie.

Are you sure? Ever need the advice of a doctor/lawyer/other professional? If so, how do you know they're not an AA junkie? They're everywhere AND they're anonymous
