Any lawyers around? I need some advice.

Anyone deal with across-state small claims? I need to file a suit against a luthier. I don't want to post more here, but would really appreciate a PM if anyone happened have any experience in the matter.

Consult with an attorney in your area. You may be able to file the claim in your county. If not, consult with an attorney in the county the luthier is located.
