Any martial artists out there?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been doing some kickboxing at home and I have a question. Should I be trying to land kicks with the top of my foot or my shin? As of now, I'm landing my kick with a mix of the top of the foot and shin. I have a decent sized bruise on the front of my ankle from kicking, but it doesn't hurt or bother me at all. It seems if I want to go all shin, I would have to be very close to my target and lose my range. Any experience martial artists out there to give me some pointers?

Thanks

Mike

use your shin... Kicking with the ankle is going to wind up broken..

depends. Top of the foot is a more taekwondo style, whereas shin-digs are more muay thai. In my humble experience at the recieving end in sparring: the former is better for speed and range whereas the latter is for power.

Mix it up for best effect

Thanks for all the advice so far. As of now, I'm just working on this stuff as part of my workout. I'm going to start training BJJ as soon as my next battery of tests are over. I forgot to mention I'm talking about body kicks, not leg kicks. I have a BOB and my my shin is landing on the front of the ribs and my ankle and foot landing on the lats. It's kind of wrapping around the side of the body. I'm not a complete amateur. I did Taekwondo for a couple years when I was younger, but we didn't spar.

Nice. I'm already pretty lethal with my Kimber and Bushmaster. I grew up in Kansas where shooting is a way of life.

*initiate bullet time* humm, aren't there any kickboxing clubs nearby? Friend of mine started of with taekwondo and moved onto kickboxing...Seriously good fun, the one I attended for a wee while was run by an ex hells angel who was one of the funniest guys I've ever met. Hard as nails mind, but funny as hell!
