I am having a problem with my 2008 Chevy truck the brake light over the rear window is staying on. Any advice on where a relay or something might be located or what this could be would be helpful. All the other lights seem to be working fine and I have taken the lamps out till I can figure this out.

That sounds like its grounding itself out. Is the wiring rubbing on anything?

Try around your seats. Chevy used to have a problem with the plastic housing where the wires were in used to rub through when the seat was moved back and forth alot. Im not sure about the '08s but its worth a look.

Don't be afraid to pull the carpet up either. It just snaps in. Also im on my phone and I can't see where you are at but if you have rats near you they like to crawl in little places and nibble wiring harnesses. When I worked for Honda the mini vans came in all the time for it.

I had an odd problem a while back with my 2003 GMC. Applying the brakes caused the hazard lights and the high brake lamp to flash.
My mechanic said that most of this wiring is routed through the turn signal stalk on the steering column. Very expensive and a bitch of a job to replace.
He recommended grasping the turn signal stalk firmly when standing outside the vehicle and giving it firm push/pull action. Not beating on it, but working it within the range of any motion it may have in/out.
Fixed my problem and has worked for a few other friends experiencing problems with the lights in their GM's.

I checked for shorts last night didn't find anything and didn't have time to look into it today. I also did a dumb thing and left the bulbs on my tool box so I gotta get some new ones tomorrow cause they are gone now. I will let you know what I find out if I find it.

I m a mechanic and own my on shop here in Nv. That don't mean squat but I'd love to help. First thing I would do is pull the light out and see what I'm working with. Your gonna need a test light. ( screwdriver looking thing with a lightbulb inside with a wire attached that you attach to a good ground) you can find at any auto parts store cheap. Is the brake light just a brake light or does it have cargo lights also built on it ? For the most parts all the trucks I've seen do not have power back there until you actually press the brakes. But if there's a cargo light that s in the same housing that could be the culprit. Cargo lights sometimes have power all the time but are turned on whenever the switch or BCM grounds it out then completing the circuit. Sorry if I just explained this bad but I'm tired as hell. Your pretty much looking to see why there is power there.
