Well, I'm way off schedule; the 456 has had a creak/tic(for lack of a better term)seemingly emanating from the front end, and I'm working on it. Its very noticeable- even w/my certifiably bad ears- by locking the front brakes and rocking fore/aft on the bars, rolling(coasting)on washboard at 5-7mph or more or pulling on the front axle(wheel removed)... It's not the fork crown/steerer; I clamped it in a work stand and wrenched it back and forth: no noise. Yesterday I removed the headset, cleaned it and reinstalled after coating the upper race/cup & frame mating surfaces w/green Loctite- as per On-One's suggestion. I will reassemble and ride this afternoon...

Hammered the 19-yr-old tandem w/The Queen this morning. First time in maybe ten(had it configured for tiny stoker). Will try and get a pic up

Slight bummage- the 456 is going back. Chronic front-end squeakiness. Might slap the old bike back together as an overgrown BMX/dirt-jump rig, would be my only single MTB for awhile.

After the first ride ( not on trail ) the first word that came to my mind is "Smooth" , I had to stop and check if I had enough pressure in my tires.

I don't know if it is psychological or a new setup but the belt have a different "feel" , probably due to the fact that it's a new bike , new crank etc....
Feels good , solid and silent (once the chainline is perfect)

The bike is custom , I haven't felt that good on a bike before , the fit is perfect !
They suggested a 80 stem but since I only use Brook saddles , they are a bit more fore aft than standard saddles. So far so good

On another nitpicking level : the whole setup , belt , Ti frame, gives the Rohloff another sound. After 8 years with it , it is the only complain I have about that product: the noise , but not with that setup.
It was on an Alu Cannondale before , lot more sound transmitting.

Can't wait for a couple of days off to go try it on the trails !!

Rode the tandem w/middle child yesterday(daughter- 11, lanky and in GREAT shape from years of ballet). We rocketed. I had to ride brakes to keep from leaving the group. We even topped the climb ahead of everyone. Wife said we(daughter & I)are very well-matched. Will drag some pics over from FB later.
Thinking I'll configure the ex-main rider SS to *mostly dirt-jump* but capable of whatever: BMX cruiser bars, platform pedals, slightly taller gear. Gotta have one running while the black beauty's in limbo. Again- pics later.

Forgot tandem ride pics- later still.. NEXT: Seeking advice re a makeover for my 05 Gemini 900. The major issue is the Sherman Breakout fork- needs a rebuild but no one does them anymore. I have a set of seals and have disassembled it, kinda in brain freeze. I like the fork- it's SUPER- beefy(I don't mind the weight, this bike will be heavy no matter what- I have a nice light SS for whooping up on little girls).
Seeking advice- keep dicking w/stock fork or buy a used or new replacement? I love this bike but can't throw a pile of money at it.

I'm such in love with that frame !!!!

Now I get the "ti ride" expression , soooooo smooth.
Gonna be probably less nervous than my Cannondale , I'll see on the trails next Spring.
Winter riding isn't the same around here !

Ooooh. A lefty. I guess I wasn't paying that close attention to the fork. I didn't notice that. Nice.

Yep , best fork I ever had by a very wide margin.

Light , stiff & Uber reliable.

(And now available as 1 1/8" steer tube)

I used to ride like the Duracell Bunny, but now I'm not finding time for it

Usually my main trials/street rig, or one of the bmx's

The blue Mongoose had been ridden hard for the 11 years it's been around, was given to me by a fat, sketchy mate. Still going strong

Just wondering who else still rides older bikes?
I ride a 1998 Gunner Rockhound hardtail with an original JudyXC and Spinergy wheels with spox hubs. :-) I keep everything maintained and it rides fine.
I was forced to sell almost everything a few years ago so my newer bikes had to go. :-(

I love old bikes! My former main ride is an 83 Lawwill Pro Cruiser, my current main is a 90-something Specialized tandem MTB AND I'm rebuilding my 05 Gemini 900. I am also ancient

I've got a '94 Kona Hahanna that I've disassembled and started to part out ... might just keep the frame; tis a nice piece of steel; just too steep geo for my current riding spots ... gotta have slack for where/how I ride.
