There's a trail running along the top. Not very pleasant on a day like this.

Killer shot. Are there spots where you can ride those wave?

Dude, it's quite green out there, and zero degrees Celsius is not cold! Try riding when it is minus 18 and windy!!

There sure are, but you need a heavy duty wetsuit because the water's cold. Really cold. Apparently Newfoundland is one of these "well kept secret" sort of places for surfing. There was a video done by a couple of pros surfing big waves up here a while back but I can't seem to find it. This is a video of a friend of mine surfing 5 minutes from where I grew up. Best I could find...

It was -5C with 80km/h winds when that picture was taken. The snow started just as I was getting off the trail. Not -18 but bloody well cold enough out in the open. Much more pleasant in the woods.

Wider view of the same spot. We spent plenty of time playing chicken with those waves but never thought of surfing. It wasn't on the radar in Newfoundland in the 80s. Too bad because it something that I could have been good at. After 15 minutes of on-beach instruction at Waikiki, I was able to reliably get up and ride for a good distance and was able to turn reasonably by the end of the day (small waves, warm water). I dug it.

I can relate. Everyone in my house has been laid low with a gastrointestinal virus since new year's eve. Today's the first day I've felt normal since then. Haven't ridden since the 28th.

I'm in trail building mode again now. Got 2km of new trail marked off, ready to start clearing a corridor. Hoping to get most of that done over the winter. Should be mostly easy building, there's a lot of open/partially open area with lots of whaleback rock outcrop and not much really tight woods. Couple of spots where I'm going to need to build pretty hefty switchbacks to get up to the open areas on top of the ridge. Love scoping out and building new trail!

Aw man- snowmobiles are AWESOME. Did a little *tour* a few years ago, and tried to get one in on our last snow trip, but ended up just doing the girlie-man circle. Better than nothin, and got the rest of the family wanting more. Next year(or later this season).

It's not a biking friendly season over here

47cm in 48 hours is quite a lot!

I do commute by bike every day though , but my MTB is done up north and there is so much snow this year , it's incredible.
A record year of snow.

BTW , snow riding is one of the reason I use my avatar.

How are the drivers? I remember reading the news and seeing stories of people getting out of their car to beat up cyclists. Your city is batcrap crazy!

There is stupid people everywhere.

Sadly.

Winter riding in a big nothern city asks a little bit of courage let's say because motorists kind of forget they are not alone in the world as soon as there is one snow flake.
I don't have a car , never had , I'm 46 , so I'm "immune" to cars now. I'm seeing myself as one of them. You have to or else , you'll always ride on sidewalk.

Sounds good. I might try it, fix myself a winter beater sometime this summer and have a go at it next year. Québec seems to have less road-rage in general so my life shouldn't be in jeopardy

Can't wait to get this section open. I'll clear the corridor over the winter then have a couple of build days in the spring to open it up.

They're calling for 60+cm here between thursday and friday with high winds. Should be fun. I'll be out on the weekend on snowshoes compacting the tread on the local MTB trails.

Montreal drivers are a special kind of crazy, though I actually prefer them to Toronto drivers.

A bunch of local riders went out and "groomed" a local MTB trail on the weekend with snowshoes when it was warm on the weekend after the 70cm of snow we got thurs-fri. It got cold again yesterday. I put the winter tires on my bike the other day and changed over to a 1x10 drivetrain and rode that trail this morning. It was awesome, I probably didn't even need the studs. Awesome winter ride until I broke my rear derailleur which of course happened right at the farthest point from the trailhead. Had to mostly walk out. Grrrr.
