Any Opeth fans?

What do you all think of Watershed?

I think it's amazing. The first time I listened to it I wasn't too sure... but then I realized that I couldn't stop listening to it. I'm in love with it now. Opeth is my favorite band (and strangely, the ONLY heavy/death metal band I listen to) and they didn't disappoint me one bit.

I'm actually excited to see where they go from here. Most bands are burned out by their 9th album, and Opeth is still making music that's better than just about anyone else out there.

I miss Peter and Lopez, but Akesson and Axenrot are both amazing. Axenrot is a machine on drums!

I've never really listened to them much, but our drumline show last season was based on Ghost of Perdition. It was pretty good and what I have listened to I've liked.

I am the same as you in that the first time I wasn't crazy about it, but after a few listens I really love the album. The weird timey groove part in The Lotus Eater is amazing, really different for Opeth but I liked it a lot.

Overall it is a very solid album and I'd say better than Ghost Reveries.

Egads! I didn't know the new album was out! Some fan I am. I enjoyed Ghost Reveries greatly, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with the new album. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow!

It grew on me after 4 listens. Ghost Reveries was about the same. But all their previous albums clicked with me right away.

Theres already a Watershed topic in the recordings forum

That said, I really like this album (with the exception of Porcelain Heart, I really dislike that song...Mellotron Heart OTOH, I quite enjoy).

At first I was like...eh...this is hard to get into.
Second time around I was feeling it a little...
Now I can't put it down! Hessian Peel baby!

I'm a huge fan (own all albums etc) and I want to see them live!

They really are an amazing band. My 3rd favorite. (Right behind Iron Maiden and Iced Earth of course)

The album is way over standard album quality. But I think they've a huge overkill on the clean parts. I mean, come on Opeth, I want more growling progmetal!

Loooooove Opeth. Watershed is an excellent album. My favorite song by far is Lotus Eater.

Glad to hear you guys like it! I think Hessian Peel is my favorite song. I mean the soft electric part in the beginning (at about 00:45) is amazing. Love it.

I was lucky enough to see them live in '05... it was AMAZING. If you guys don't have the Roundhouse Tapes I would highly recommend them. It's their live album... and the sound is so good it sounds better than most studio albums.

XtreO has a great point. The songs on Watershed where you're like "eh I don't know, this is a little weak for Opeth" are songs that would be like a high point in time for any other band. And this is Opeth's 9th album!

They're just amazing. No one comes close to them for me.

I just saw them live last month; they were one of a few bands touring with Dream Theater.

I didn't know much about them, and can't claim to be much of a fan after hearing them (Dream Theater's about as far as I go into prog metal), but they had a huge sound. They're all extremely talented, and their lead singer had some pretty entertaining monologues between songs on stage.

Even though I can't claim to be a big fan, I'm definitely glad I saw them.

I would really love to see them live. They're coming to my area during the two weeks out of the year that I'll be in Europe. Figures.

I saw them twice on the previous tour, at Jaxx with Nevermore, and at the Recher Theater with Devin Townsend and Dark Tranquility. Both were awesome shows.
I was out of town for the Opeth/DT show though.
They will be touring the states again in the fall.

As for Watershed, The Lotus Eater is my favorite track so far, and I don't see that changing. The whole album is excellent and a bit of a change from Ghost Reveries. I feel that the band as a whole is tighter, that the melodic passages are still very good, and that the heavy sections (while fewer) are heavier.

I'm not sold on Watershed yet. Not really a fan of the new drummer or the new guitarist either.

I liked things *Just* how they were.
