Any other Cognitive Science Bassists

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering if there are any other bassists here that are cognitive scientists by profession, and play bass as a hobby.

If so let me know where you work or go to school and the focus of your research.

I'm currently at Rutgers, I work with Zenon Pylyshyn, and Jerry Fodor.

I've done work on pre-conceptual visual object representations, demonstrative thought and the grounding problem, as well as modern examinations of the connectionist classicalist debate, with some minor work on the physiological basis of memory. \m/

There's an obscure take on graphic design that expects me to happily swim in subconscious processes, which I then affect with carefully calibrated pictures.

I am nowhere near that cool.

I am working in the specialized field of Cognitive Science - the focus is working toward a proven method for consistently removing the panties from hot 20 and 30 something year old Females. My studies are through out the Metropolitan Area at a variety of Entertainment Establishments. Oh and I am self taught - no fancy degree program here. Pure trial and error.

4fretlessmetal, it's great to see another Rutgers student/alumni on the forum! Are you doing graduate work there?

I assume it's mostly by error?

vorago, blaim chomsky he started the whole thing lol

sterling_bass, no I'm finishing up my undergrad studies, and getting ready for grad school, I wish I was already there as my undergrad work could easily be converted into a masters thesis. I also see you like MMA, I've done a little muay thai and bjj here and there but nothing too serious.

well i dont know what any of this is but i was thinking, what if a bass was made out of bones? no seriously, like whale bones or something big. all bone. body and neck made out of bone, everything except the electronics and strings. would that sound good?

I'm in undergraduate studies, as well. Do you plan on continuing graduate work at Rutgers, or are you considering other schools?

The thing with rutgers and there psych grad programs is they generally don't like to accept their own. I'm still applying to rutgers, but I'm considering other schools aswell.

However if i could really choose, it would be a tough choice between rutgers and yale, that is if at rutgers i got to work with dr. gallistel. yet that probably wont happen

what does a bass made out of bones have to do with this thread.

I'm in philosophy and will probably get deeper into philosophy of mind next quarter, then deeper still in graduate school.

care to elaborate on that, being such topics are not generally taught as sciences in most US universities, and I'm sure depending on certain circles may even be considered a pseudoscience. So maybe you could give the rest of us some insight.

Eric, how much philo have you done so far? Have you taken any courses in philo of mind yet?

good to hear, what area's of behavioral neuro are you planning on focussing in. It's funny here at Rutgers the behavioral neuro major is actually a concentration in psychology, where as the true neuroscience major is a concentration in cellular biology

I'm not entirely sure yet. As of now, I'm using it to set a foundation for med school. I may be veering off into research, however, depending on how the next few years go.

No, no courses in philosophy of mind yet. I'm 2 quarters away from a BA in philosophy from the University of Chicago. Most of my interests are in the history of philosophy, especially Kant, but also epistemology, philosophy of literature, and Kierkegaard.
