Any paypal protection on craigslist?

Long story short: I am an idiot.

Full story....a particular type of camera I use for work, I broke. It is discontinued, and hard to find....I wanted to find another of the same since it does a great job indoors, and I have spare batteries and chargers for this particular model.

I found one on craigslist, which seemed like a pretty good price. It is in NJ though, and I am in ohio. I emailed and asked if he would be willing to ship it if I paid the postage, and asked if he took paypal. So I sent him the $100 he was asking, plus $7 shipping. I -knew- this was risky to do so over the net, but decided to give it a shot since all in all my internet dealings have gone pretty well. I let him know I needed this immediately for work, and to please let me know as soon as he shipped it so I would know when to expect it. No reply. Couple more emails, no reply. He finally replied the end of last week saying he was sorry he got busy, and asks me to send my address again, so I did. I sent another email over the weekend asking if it has been shipped yet and again, no reply.

I paid May 10th, and still have not gotten any indication whatsoever that it may be sent. I did a search of his email, and found his facebook...he looks to be a scumbag, gangsta, piece of ****. I would like to file a claim with paypal, but I don't believe they can do anything since this was not an ebay transaction, and doing so will all but guarantee that he never does send it. So worst case, I get ripped out of $100 and will resort to signing him up for gay porn by his email address, and post it here asking for help tormenting him in any way imaginable. I'd rather just get my camera or money back though....

Paypal file a claim with Paypal, thats what Paypal is for, sending money of the internet safely.

Tell them exactly what happened, include emails ect.

To be honest i'd contact the guy one more time and tell him if he doesn't send it you will have the charges reversed.

Doesn't matter how it transpired, you are covered. He'll have to prove he sent it and they may allow time in between, but start a claim immediately. Elevate it to a dispute and if you don't hear anything within a week, call Paypal and they'll usually find in your favor.

As long as you sent the money as a payment for goods/services, you are covered. If you sent it as a "gift" or any of the other methods (ie methods where paypal fees aren't collected) they don't allow for buyer protection.

Yeah, I will give it another day or two, even though I am thoroughly disgusted with the deal already. Great....I really thought there were 1001 hoops to jump through to get buyer protection...using ebay being one of them.

Hey, the guy may come through. Maybe he really was busy making an album or doing some drive-bys.

No need to go through all that trouble to torment someone over $100.

Well, sure it is. I'd be happy with my camera, but it's a close second really.
