So I got an new job, thank God(or whomever, everybody stay cool). And its from 8:30pm to 4:00am, im running a forklift at a wal-mart distribution center(I used to work in mid-management, but then the economy died). I was just wondering if any else out there is active when the sun goes down.

Drove forklift occasionally and depending on what I was driving it for, it made for a long (and cold when I was hauling from the freezers) night. I don't know how it is there, but I always found the people working the graveyard shift a lot easier to deal with which made for a better working environment.

It's got its ups and downs, the biggest down being that you're at work Friday night when everyone else is going out. The biggest perk is that you have your whole day to do with as you see fit.

But I think that working nights permanently messed up my ability to sleep properly.
When I worked nights, I worked eight hours and spent the other sixteen trying (usually unsuccessfully) to get eight hours sleep. LOTS of people have told me the same thing.
That was years ago and I still can't rest properly. At the moment, I've been up all night yet again. It's horrible.

Usually it's driving around the city and checking the clients' facilities. Mostly industrial and commercial, but sometimes residential as well.
During the week, I get odd glances from the people who are going to work when I take the train home in the morning, tired and weary. During the weekends, no-one thinks anything of it

Practice isn't too bad though. Hit it after dinner and wrap up up two or three hours later. Most people don't want band practice going on after 9 or 10 anyway.

To make matters worse, weekdays we have PT (IN IRAQ?!?!) starting a 1500, and I normally don't go to bed until at least 0900. But it's nice to have the higher-ups sleeping while I'm working, less problems and all.
Peace,
Greg

My favorite thing in the world is getting home at 8 a.m. or so, cracking a beer on the porch, and waving at the neighbors....

I work 15:30 to 02:30 myself sometimes i work 20:30 to 07:00
no Friday gigs for me either unless i schedule off, but that seems to work fine as most bars around here favor cover bands on Thursday and Friday Nights, and original bands on Saturday Nights....

Interesting stuff happens at resort/casinos in the middle of the night... I'd do it again if I had to: grave usually pays better.

Worked in manufacturing since I was 18 (37 going on 50 now!), shift work for the majority of the time.
Currently I babysit microbiological organisms and keep them happy as they transform basic starches into CO2 and alcohol.
Translation: I work at a brewery.
Nice to see fellow nightowls.
Peace.
