Thanks!
Any loafer-style or slip-on dress shoe is good. Any brand is good, Florsheim, Clarks, Johnson & Murphy, Bass, Mezlan, Hugo Boss, etc. Doc Martens are kind of too thick soled and more casual than dressy, but are good if you are dealing with a heel spur.

I do suggest not getting a cheapo dress shoe with a synthetic rubber sole that is made in China. I've bought a pair that ended up having a strong odor of petroleum, like I stepped in a puddle of gasoline and this odor would not go away. If you can go to a store rather than online, you can give the sole a sniff. Not kidding times 2.

Don't buy a cheap shoe because in the end it's not worth it and will not last even if you don't wear it much largely due to the durability(read lack of) of the materials used. You can't go wrong with a pair of Bally and if you have the dough, a pair of Salvatore Ferragamos.

Levi's 511 are the only jeans I wear

I'll be honest, I just discovered them a month ago. I used to pay way to much for jeans, then I discovered a Levi's outlet near me and I bought two pairs of really nice, high quality jeans for less than $90. I couldn't be happier.

Skechers Men's Equable-Verns

Comfortable and stylish. Go well with a suit, slacks or jeans.

Thought I'd drop in to reinforce the points I made on page 2 of the thread. You won't go wrong with the shoe color advice and color coordination info I shared.

The gent who responded and thinks that no one should wear black because it's boring has - let's say - a questionable point of view. It's a basic building block of color and clothing coordination. Part of the goal with dress clothing is to have basic colors that can be mixed and coordinated so you don't have to spend a fortune on a wardrobe. Every guy should have black, grey and khaki slacks for business wear. They can go with all kinds of shirts, jackets...and they need to be coordinated with shoes too.

Also - let me repeat that dress shoes must ALWAYS be polished. Scuffed up dress shoes are the mark of a slob.

(If you think I'm just an old fart, that's fine, because old farts do a lot of hiring and promoting. Their point of view matters.)

Ha! I actually bought my first two pairs of Levi's the other day. So far I've been liking them a lot!

Quoted for truth. Unless you work in a workplace that allows jeans, then most everything goes with a good pair of jeans. Have a few different colours and washes to mix is up a little. Brown shoes go better with jeans, but black is perfectly acceptable. Black jeans are a no go.

Those are awful.

For casual (including the slovenly business-casual of today) daytime wear, straight black trousers with black shoes is without a doubt boring. Solid black is extremely limiting in terms of what can be worn with it tastefully as well, more so than any other color. Charcoal is preferable in almost all instances IMO. It may be acceptable in the current current business culture, but that doesn't mean it looks good. Yes, basic colors, but more money is spent on clothing today than before, and most people are dressed quite poorly.

Black shoes aren't bad, just more formal and limiting. Black pants are much more limiting though.

FWIW, I am a college student, and due to the extremely relaxed dress standards and my non-existent budget, I wear denim most days. I do switch it out occasionally, but it is so out of place that I usually only go for chinos.

Was quite close to picking up a pair of Hush Puppies last week. Though the only pair in my size had a damaged sole (and I was a bit iffy on the red rubber sole idea), quite a shame though, as they looked pretty sweet.

Red Wings makes a similar boot, although it is probably in the same price range. I don't have a problem dropping that kind of coin on shoes/boot though, expensive ones are more comfortable and last longer. Between my workboots, my dress shoes and my everyday shoes, I have spent close to $1000 and don't regret a cent of it.

I don't have any problem doing so with workboots, I fancy my pair of Royer as you know. But for everyday wearing, I just can't bring myself to spend that much. I don't really have the coin anyways.

I have the opposite problem, my work boots get really beat up, and cutting fluid is no good for them. I spend more on everyday shoes since I can keep them nice longer. I still have a pretty nice pair of Timberlands for work.

My reasoning is that when I'm at work with workboots I'll most likely spend 7-8h standing up, my everyday shoes on the other hand will only support me for half that as I'm a student.

I know plenty of adults who rock Chucks on a daily basis. My 45-year-old brother in law collects and wears limited edition Jordans. I wear a pair of 80's styled Puma's outside of work and dress shoes at work.

I too have flatulence and qualify for the senior dicsount at Ross on Wednesdays. After that we head in different directions.
I almost never wear dress clothes. For me it's jeans and a t-shirt or a nice casual shirt. I don't have any khakis or anything like that. I do have a nice suit if needed.
I also have a bad ankle so most shoes are just too painful for me to wear. You will usally find me in my Wesco's that look like the boots pictured below. I have been mostly a blue collar worker all my life so my clothes haven't been that important. There is no denying that we judged by our appearance. I try and dress neatly when going for job inteviews but wearing Dockers and dress shoes to an interview at some of the places I have worked may actually be a disadvantage.
At my age I have accepted who I am and like to dress comfortably.

+1

With the exception that I do work in an office and am someone who does the hiring too. I am required to wear business, not the business casual implemented by many corporations these days, and also wear a tie several days by choice.

I do have black dress shoes but only do wear them when pairing with other black attire, when wearing a tux or for truly formal events. Other than that I have brown, tan, oxblood, etc. etc. etc.

Also, loafers are a no-no when paring with a suit - too casual.
