Any well seasoned veterans in the land of interviewing out there?

Hey all,

I have a second interview coming up this Friday for a position that I want extremely badly. It's a Director position for all of Children's Services Behavioral Health at the agency that oversees the managed care organizations for a four county region. I'd no longer be a clinician per se, but I'd oversee all clinical services provided to children and adolescents in that four county region. I cannot say what a massive promotion (and raise) this would be over my current position of clinical supervisor at a private provider agency.

I had my first interview about a week and a half ago. I have no doubt they received countless resumes for the position. I am unsure how many people were called for the first interview, and have no idea how many people along with myself were offered a second interview. What I do know is that I felt my first interview went extremely well.

Do any of you have any words of wisdom, beyond the obvious, for my second interview which may give me an edge over the competition. Thanks a ton in advance!

Can't offer any advice for a position like that, but I will offer you the best of luck!

Thank you sir!

I am at work now, so it will have to wait until I leave today, but I will certainly be reading it.

Thanks again!

The best I can offer is interview the interviewer without being too pushy about it. It not only shows interest in the job but it puts them in the mental position of trying to sell the position to you.

Oh, and good luck

As a salesman I can tell you that people only buy from people that they like.

And the best way to get someone to like you is to like them first and express this affection by asking sincere questions about them, their family, their hobbies, and the job.

Excellent advice! Even something as simple as "oh, you have a dog? What kind of dog? How old is he?" can turn the tide in your favor.

I'd also say, show them that you are hungry for their specific job. If they get the feeling you are just desperate for work in general, they may not like that, but if you can convey that you don't care what the rest of the market has to offer, and you want only their job, then that can work strongly for you.

You probably know this, but I wanted to say something to support you.

Don't act desperate or overly excited. Just like Jules says...."be cool".

Wulp, had the interview today and I think it went very well. IotaNet sent me some stuff to work on which I incorporated, and I think it made a big difference. I owe him big time!

I was one of four people picked for this second round. I'll know in 2-3 weeks what the outcome was. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks guys for the help or well-wishes!

Subscribed. Couldn't really help, but I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. However, the advice posted on here is something I'll keep in mind.

If they have a 3d, make sure you show up drunk and smelling like scotch. They'll think you're high class cause you drink scotch, and that should get you the job.
