Anybody Live In Tennessee?

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy ho.

So, my final destination this weekend for my familial move is semi-set. We're going to Tennessee.

It's going to be in the Chatanooga area, probably Jasper or Whitwell, or maybe in the 'nooga itself.

Either way, I'm desperately searching for a place to live for me and my wife and kids, and need a job too. Anybody hae any idea where to look? CL isn't helping me, and I've never lived in TN, so I have no real connections or anything there.

I have a band waiting for me there, but other than that, no way to support the family.

Any advice or whatever would be welcome.

Not sure what line of work you are in, but there is a Volkswagon plant in Chattanooga. I'm sure there are some industries popping up around it. I'm in Nashville, so don't know much about Chattanooga except I used to go there as a kid for weekend trips to go to Lookout Mtn and all the other tourist stops. There's a pretty cool aquarium there too.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee is based in Chattanooga and has several large office buildings full of people. There is an old theatre (redone, I think) called The Tivoli that features big name acts in a fairly intimate setting. Down town has several high-end hotels and large banking operations, and there is even a tailor. The "touristy" part of downtown has several clubs and restaurants, some featuring microbrew, and some of which are also gig possibilities. They have made a huge effort to go "green" with electric trams for public transportation, solar trash compactors in the (quite large) riverside park, and so on.

In short, there is a lot going on there. Hopefully you can land something quickly and start to settle in and enjoy the place.

I'm in Knoxville, so not much information about Chatt. Like said above Volkswagen built a plant there. Also UT Chatt is there. Its a satellite campus of the University of Tennessee. That might be a place to look. Good Luck. I moved from PA to TN 7 years ago and love it.

Spent most of my life in Chattanooga. Blue Cross is the biggest employer up there. Depending on what you are looking to do job wise you might want to consider some North Georgia areas such as Ringgold, or Ft. Olgethorpe, since they are very close to the state line. The wife and I still have all our families living there so I have a good source of info if you have any questions.

I've noticed that all the VW listings are for people with BS or higher degrees. That makes it damn nigh impossible for me to find a job - I only got my AA.

Go ahead and try it. If you have experience, some companies won't care. I only have my AA too and have gotten jobs before that were advertised as requiring a BS.

I've been to Chattanooga, and I've gotta say that's it's a beautiful area. I really had a great time visiting. I thought the people were really warm too.

Any that aren't manual labor. My body can't handle too much lifting.

Anywho, I made it here a week ago, and have been stuck in my in-law's house. No jobs, just now managing to find a place to look at getting into apartment wise. Just now getting our loaner car fixed up.

No job prospects yet, and our savings are running thin.

Turns out my father in law is one of those psychotic drunks who does an almost daily Jekyll and Hyde maneuver. I had to get my family out of there.

We're currently hiding out in Baxley, Georgia.
