anyone from elmira new york?

Sign in to disble this ad
there is the off chance that casa del turner might possibly be relocating to elmira or the vicinity (or possibly closer to the ny^2 area). my wife has a bead on a job with the irs up there, and we're considering moving.

what's the area like? any great prog bands up there need a bass player?

Yah!! Now we can finally hang out....

Well not really....Elmira is still 4 1/2 hours away from me. Yes, I've been through there before, not much to say about it really....it's like most upstate NY towns I've been through: barren, very little to do, and the pizza absolutely SUCKS.

Yeah, upstate NY is a little barren depending, but Elmira shouldn't be too bad. Beautiful country in those parts though.

Plus, you'll have nice summers and real winters

i was born in a small town in pa, so tbh i'm sorta dreading the small town aspect (been hating atlanta because it's too small, and it's certainly bigger than elmira).

but being closer to ny is a definite plus (tied with toronto for being my favorite city).

Just guessing here but I'm figuring that you'd be about 2 hours from Syracuse, maybe an hour from Binghamton, and probably about 3-4 hours or so from NYC.

I'm a bit south of Binghamton and don't know the Elmira scene well since I don't get up there often, but if you relocate, we've got to hang out. You may want to look in northern PA, taxes tend to be a bit lower there, and it's definitely a buyer's market. Some nice areas around Mansfield, and the music program at Mansfield U is top notch (I've got several former students in the vocal program there).

Funny you should say that....Atlanta is probably my favorite city other than NY. I have a lot of family down there and if I was to move out of NY, it would most likely be Atlanta (or suburbs - Buckhead)

Sorry Mr. Turner, but you'll be a tad closer to Buffalo than NYC.

But hey, we got T.O. for a year! Just wait till you see his VH1 show...it'll give you a sense of how this town is full of podunks who dress up like popcorn and give the key to the city away to a guy who hasn't even played a down of football here. yep...

you're not encouraging me dude .

eh, if it does happen, i'll be closer to pittsburgh. as far as football is concerned, that's really the only city that's ever mattered to me since i was about 7.

I am not from Elmira NY, but I live about 25 minutes from Elmira, Ontario. Nice little town less than an hour from Toronto. You should move here.

John, you'd be a couple hours south of Rochester, which isn't all that bad of a city. Not as many places to play as there used to be, but not a half bad music scene.

I do like the southern tier and finger lakes area of NY, which is pretty much where Elmira is. If it wasn't for the kids still in school and the grandparents being close to us, I'd consider a move southward.

All I know about Elmira is that's where the bank examiner was going for Christmas dinner in It's a Wonderful Life.
