I went out for my very first time today. I have not swung a golf club ever in my life until noon today. I hit a bucket of balls on the range and practiced on the putting green with my uncle, then went out and played my first 9.
I shot a 59 on my first 9 holes ever. I am addicted!!!! I love this game and I can tell already Im going to be playing and practicing A LOT to get ready for this coming Spring and Summer. I have a basic set of clubs and bag that get the job done and Im happy with what I got. I forget the brand of clubs they are, but they are decent. Theyre in the garage at the moment but Ill go down and check them out again in a minute.
Just remember, keep your head down and your eye on the ball
Im so happy I found the beauty of this sport, Im going back to the range tomorrow to practice some more! |

I like catching a buzz and hangin out with friends.
Where did you go? Owl Creek? The one there in Kempsville? |

My feet give me a bit of trouble even with orthotics and I can JUST walk 9 holes (I have no desire to ride a cart unless I need to play 18 in a tournament).
It's good walking exercise, and it's a constant lab experiment in the concept of "intermittent reinforcement".

I was never any good, but decent enough to not hold up the group. Any success I had was likely luck, but I like to think I understood the game enough to know how bad I really was.
Quick side story: My brother got set up with a fairly small domestic oil company a few years back. Being a small office, he and others got invited to do all kinds of stuff with the CEO, including happy hour, skeet shooting and whatnot. His first time out, it was 9 holes of golf...his first. After stinking it up all over the place and feeling quite stupid, he somehow managed to roll the cart into a water hazard.

I didnt get a holier than thou attitude from anybody. |

I do play real golf every so often, not too seriously though. I keep a 3 wood from the 70's in my trunk just in case and use it for any distance, including putting. I'm not very good

We play a 4 man scramble with some kinda odd scoring system where they pick random holes and adjust everyones score on those holes. First year I played my team came in first and won some expensive golf bag. This year though my team got the DAL (Dead A** Last) prize which was a rocking chair.

Went to the range today and hit about 200 balls or so, then went to the chipping green and spent about 2 hours practicing chipping and putting.
It was chilly and VERY windy today though
I think Im going to play 9 tomorrow |

| | Veteran Dispenser | | Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Newton, Mass | | I've played on and off for over 35 years. Some years I play only once or twice; other years I may get out dozen times. A typical round for me is 1 or 2 pars , 5 or 6 bogies, 6 or 7 double bogies and 3 to 6 others . No consistency, even from hole to hole as far as which club is working. But I keep going back because every round I'll hit one straight drive, I'll hit one green on a par 3, I'll knock one mid-iron close, one chip for a tap-in and 1 10+foot putt. Those 5 strikes make up for the other 95 and next time I figure I may have 6 of those.
I just bought a used oversized driver and 3 wood so I looking forward to seeing if that will help at all.
