Anyone else just not have the Christmas spirit this year?

Not sure why, but this year I could just care less about the decorations, spending time with my family most of whom I don't like or get along with, or whether we have a white Christmas or not.

Bah Humbug.

No spirit here. The holidays just aren't fun when you're alone.

It's ridiculous. Jesus would puke if he were here to see what Christmas has become.

I have always found the end of the year a little depressing. Bringing out the decorations to celebrate this time of the year is always a forced thing for me. The whole season seems to consume itself. I would rather find a quiet bar with a couple good friends and exchange beers.

me and my friends had a full turkey dinner this past weekend
and im having another one this weekend with some other friends

awesome times, and i love that part of christmas

Mines gone. It doesn't feel like Xmas to me. My parents just got the tree up today. And we've all been kinda like, dazed...

Yeah it wasn't until about midway through last week when I finally realized "Oh crap, Christmas is next week!"

i agree. working in retail really killed xmas for me, i've had to get a lift across the country to see my family, had abuse from people all week, and had people complaining that because i have no stock of a certain television, it's totally ruined their christmas. no matter that they have their family and the people they love around them, a roof over their head and food in their belly, the lack of that particular tv has ruined it... makes me sick. but now i'm here, my little brother will be home in about ten minutes and do you know what? as i type i'm actually getting into it again! YAY!

I do:

That's my xmas spirit

But in all seriousness, it doesn't actually feel as christmassy this year as it used to. I am looking forward to the big chirstmas lunch tomorrow though, first family dinner at home for a few months now.

I never feel like christmas, mostly because it becomes hyped up to the point where it no longer is a celebration but an obligation to get presents, cook your ass off and the like.

I try to celebrate christmas as minimal as possible, by spending time with my family.

I wasn't at all up until the $50 mystery bass thread. Corny of me? Yeah kind of when you think about it, but it reminded me that Christmas is not about expensive material things, but rather about people.
If you're religious it's about Christ. If you're not then maybe it's about family or giving, but no matter what, the one thing it's not truly about is materialism or money. I just got reminded of that in a hysterical but very real way.
So, that said, I do wish you all Merry Christmas and I hope that the spirit of it finds you all in one way or another and this holiday turns out being excellent for you.

Me.... Since 1 November I've had enormous work stress, my grandmother passed away two days after thanksgiving, I got sick three times with three different illnesses (one of which is a recurring thing that had been absent for a year) my dad's younger brother died unexpectedly five days ago, my parents lost a ******** of money in investments, my attempt to buy a house fell through, my dad's trying to sell off his housing development project and retire, most of my family have moved away or are not speaking to each other, etc. The last couple months have been rough, and haven't left much time for holiday stuff.

Oddly enough, one of the bits that bugs me the most is that for once I could afford to spend a chunk and wanted to give my parents some cool stuff, but they told me not to because of the state of the economy.

Ironically, for the company I work for, 2008 was the best year we'd had since the late '90s despite the horrible economy.

So right now I'm sitting here with a piece of shortbread and a cup of tea, and thinking that high-octane egg nog might be in the immediate future.

Hi.

I'm not a holiday person, never been, so no, I don't have the Christmas spirit.

I have never cared too much about holidays, religious or pagan, they're just days off. Well most of the times they are, I've brought happines to other people countless times by volunteering to work on holidays.

I like to bring happines and help people when ever I can, not just when the calender tells me to, but I absolutely understand why some people like holidays and I respect that.
And now that I'm older, I do know how to play along if it makes them happy .

Regards
Sam

Our city is a mess due to the biggest storm since 1968 and we've been holed up in the house for 4 days now... wife was laid off when we were on our honeymoon.

But, everyone is healthy and I'm a happily married man so not too much can dampen my spirits! No I gotta' leave and do some shoppin'.

I did all my shopping for gifts in one day and it was just a trip to the liquor store. Everyone got booze. I figure that way they'll be more inclined to feel joyous and merry.

I've never really been a Christmas person. I usually just get together with friends, we hang out, go to the movies, go to a diner afterwards, and then maybe go over someone's house for a few drinks or games, or just general socialization.
