Sorry, no sad tales to tell for USPS. Last week it took only four days tops to get two packages from California to Omaha Ne. What exactly do you the OP, consider to be inordinately slow service?

I know they close too early in my town. The main PO closes at 5:00 (summer hours) which really sucks. In my opinion they lose business because of this. I don't get off work until 5:30 so I use Fed Ex.

Despite the non-working tracking services, USPS has a good cost/benefit ratio IMO.

I sent a pedal coast to coast by priority and it took 2 weeks so I tend to agree with the OP.

Package took three weeks to arrive from South Texas to North Georgia. Package sent the same day both with Priority Mail, From South Texas to South Florida took two days.

God Bless, Ray

Also has anybody every got any useful info from USPS online tracking? The package I'm expecting is showing acceptance 6 days ago and then nothing.

The only info I've got from this system usually appears after the item arrives and shows the often messed-up route it took to get to you!

Here in vegas its been about 5 days to send stuff inside the city. But for us to send it across the country it takes about two days. Makes no sense, my mom (owner of a buisness) called the postmaster in our town and complained and now the mail has been coming same day!

Last I heard they were in the process of closing 2600 or more post offices nationwide. They were trying to eliminate Saturday delivery (they may cut a weekday delivery day instead). It doesn't surprise me that they seem slower with the cutbacks they are trying to make.

We're lucky if we get mail delivery. There are five apartments in my building, two at the other entrance, three on my side. Each mailbox is clearly labeled with the apartment number and residents names, but almost everyday there is something delivered to us that isn't ours or to our neighbors that belongs to us. On top of that, we go through random spans where delivery/pickup will be spotty. I had a piece of mail sit in our mail box from friday morning when I put it out, until the following tuesday when they finally decided to deliver our mail again. Since that time, we usually will only have one day spans without pickup/delivery, but it has gotten ridiculous.

The sad part is, I live about 5 minutes (walking distance) away from the post office.

The guys at my local PO have been talking about major layoffs and reorganization in the USPS, and there have been half as many people working the counter for the last couple of months, so it's probably the same story in the rest of the organization.

That said, I've recently had a couple of packages that I sent internationally get to their destination with remarkable promptness.

You did not indicate what rate was used to ship the bass...was it sent via "parcel post","first class" or "priority" as the shipping speed correlates to how much one wants to pay.

It could be there next day (guaranteed-or your money back-and with world class tracking),if you selected "Express mail".

USPS rates overall, are still less expensive than UPS and Fedex.

I've noticed that July/August is a little slower for the PO because of vacations.

As a former summer camp worker, I would blame cookie boxes and forgotten clothing for the global mail slowdown.

Last time I stopped by it was one of the shortest visits yet. Also, Nebraska to Washington(state) 2 days! I've always had great experiences with USPS. Cheap and fast shipping.
