I just got it over the weekend.

There goes my life. And my free time. And probably my marriage.

Contrary to the current way of the world, it's actually not online - single player only. Think Civilization in space, but with a crazy huge tech tree, crazy good AI, and crazy deep game play. It's crazy. I can see the larger maps takings weeks to play. I'm in nerd overload right now.

I have it. It's very addicting, so I can only let myself play for so many days at a time.

Is this a Sid Meier joint? If it is, I'm sure it's addictive as crack!

It's not, though the similarities are striking. I think it's up there with any of the Civilization games as far as gameplay, quality, and depth go.

I love this game, I could spend quite a bit of time just customizing the ships. It really starts to get fun when you get high logistics with high weapons tech imo. Throwing around fleets of 22 or more tiny class ships is great in the 3D battles. I usually try to win through the Technology Victory.

I played this game quite a bit earlier this year.
I was a huge Master of Orion fan (specifically 2). I liked this game a whole bunch, but I had a few complaints about the tech tree...

Researching certain things keeps you from researching other branches in the same discipline... makes no sense...

Other than that... loved it!

I have a buddy that I always play strategy games against, this was very high on both our lists...

on a similar note, anyone play The Ur-Quan Masters?

My son has started getting into real-time strategy games in a big way. He started with "Age of Mythology" and now he's working his way through the "Age of Empires" series. I'll have to give this game a look-over.

I love the Civ games, but I had to let them go. They just take up too much time and get very complex very quickly.

Civ II was great because you could play a full game in one blissfully nerdy day, but the more recent versions are too much for me. I'll play for a while and then have to take a few das off due to scheduling conflicts. When i come back i can't remember who I was plotting to destroy next.
