They don't. |

didja miss the other thread??? or were you busy basking in yer fabulosity?
IMO, he's only overrated directly proportionate to his love of taking chances and going AGAINST HOLLYWOOD'S NORMS. Heaven forbid.

But if you really think he's the one taking chances and ignoring the Hollywood model, you're misinformed. There are many great filmmakers who work outside the Hollywood system. M Night Shamalyan isn't one of them. |

6th sense = great
Signs = not bad at all
lady in the water = HILARIOUS
The village = weakest of them all
Batting over .500 from where I sit because the good ones were pretty damn good. He creates great atmosphere, I just think he needs co-writers to flesh out his generally very clever premises.

I get scared quite easily by movies, and I *laughed* the whole way through that movie. (OK, is it just me, or did the aliens in Signs look like the Protoss race in StarCraft? That certainly didn't help ;-)) It seems to me like Mr. Shyamalan can actually come up with decent premises for his movies, but they all turn to utter crap (I don't know about the Sixth Sense, haven't seen it myself but that's the only movie of his that I'll believe could be decent).
Now I see in the T.V. ads for his new movie, the best thing they can come up with to say about it is how it's his "first R-rated feature".
Come on. Terrible director.

That ending is just such a cop-out "They called me Mr. Glass!" Well, have a lollipop ya angsty tosser - get over it, you old man! I wouldn't swear out loud again until I saw Kingdom of The Crystal Skull a few weeks ago...but that was more to signal embarrassment.
I don't think he's overrated, as he's often ridiculed. I enjoyed 6th Sense though and I'm going to give this new one a shot too.

Signs and The Village were way too predictable for me to stand them, and I just couldn't get into Lady In The Water. Unbreakable was pretty predictable too, but I still liked it. Sixth Sense I actually went back and watched again to see what I had missed the first time. There's something about The Happening that makes me kind of want to see it though, especially since it's the first movie out of the last 5 he's made that wasn't originally written for Disney. |

Signs was decent and I haven't seen a Shyamalan film in 6 years. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
