Cause I sure as heck do
I was just flipping through the channels and landed on TLC while one of those little girl padgents shows on. Creepy, just creepy, thats the only way I can describe it. The moms are so out of control its unbelievable and the little girls are just being set up for huge emotional issues for later down the road, IMO.
I dont know, something about it all just really alarms me and creeps me out. Anyone else feel the same way? |

where the hell are all the dads through all this? |

They're basically sexualizing toddlers. It's gross and it's wrong. It's a goldmine for pedophiles.
Those girls are going to have all kinds of problems growing up. Body image problems, self-esteem problems from parents that expect competitive perfection from a child, etc.

But apparently real photos can look *that* bad when the subjects are wearing an absolute ton of cheap makeup.
Definitely not my scene...

It's demanding, melodramatic moms w/inadequacy complexes trying to live vicariously thru their kids (Which explains why they spend $10K+ to win a contest w/a $500-$2,000 prize... can you say overcompensating for feelings of inadequacy?), and usually the dads in these pageant families are the kind of guys who keep their balls (and their checkbooks apparently) in their wife's purse. I've seen some kinda documentary where a mom had an orthodontic surgeon create some kinda fake tooth for her kid when she lost one. Honestly, the only thing that creeps me out more than these parents, are the freakshows that judge these things.
So, no... you're not alone in thinking these are creepy. |

She'd been asked about the pageant insanity before and did say that while her parents weren't like that, an overwhelming majority of them are and it almost stopped her from doing pageants on more than one occasion.
She left the pageant circuit in college and hasn't gone back to the best of my knowledge.
But yes, pageants like that are ****ed up. Little Miss Sunshine did a very good job parodying them, IMO. |

| | | | That creepy stuff was on at my house today. It's like a bad car crash: you don't want to look but for some reason, you can't turn away.
I think it's like Pitbull Growl said: screwed up moms making their kids do these things. What little kid has enough world experience to really know this is something they want to do?
I watched some of the show today in total bewilderment. These parents are objectifying these girls. What kind of parent does this? How could they think this is okay?
I think it's wrong on so many levels. |

Kids are not commodities.

Grotesque.

IMO the law functions as the backbone of common sense. If common sense is applied, then the law need not be.
The law is needed here.
It's too bad there's more votes in telling people they have rights than there is in reminding them of their responsibilities. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
