Anyone familiar with the Detroit airport?

I've had two different layovers here in the past week, and several more in the past few years.

Every time I'm here I walk through this section of the airport between the larger plane gates and the smaller ones. It's a long tunnel with walkways, and the walls are all a giant screen. They have crazy colors changing on them all the time, and they play really exotic sounding electronic music simultaneously.

I feel like I'm on an acid trip every time I walk through there, and I can't seem to find the significance of it, rather than just looking cool, (which it does.) Anyone know what's up with that?

It is Laurel Fyfe's work. She did others in various public places, notably the Most Blessed Cathedral in Detroit.
It's supposed to generate feelings and reactions but doesn't have a significance as far as I know.

I always assumed that the music was there because you are walking underneath a runway. I travel through there a few times a year.

Yeah, I heard they're 0 for 16 this season for on time flights too.

It was a way to blow taxpayer money along with the "Water Exhibit". Two major wastes of cash that could have gone to actually make things work in the new terminal.

Haha, this is pretty entertaining.

I actually had a pretty smooth experience on all my flights this past trip. Flying home only a day before Thanksgiving, I was expecting mass traffic and confusion in the airport, but it all went right on schedule. Needless to say, I was shocked.

I'd have to say that it was worth building, but probably somewhere else. It probably doesn't get it's full appreciation in an airport anyway.
