Anyone familiar with the guys over there ? I took the plunge a few times.. no names I recognized from Bass guitar Forums.. it looks like a whole other world up there, yet it's the same Talkbass..

(their OT looks totally dead without a MM...)

I read it every day.

I don't play DB so I never post.

I just figured it was some sort of hybrid two-pole fresh water fishing advice forum....

Who knew??

Rule number one about the double bass forum... don't talk about the double bass forum.

they only allow us electrical types over there to polish the ivory in their tower...and that's only on a day pass.

sometimes, though, if you say that you only play plank for the gigs, admit a secret fetish for Samuel Shen and worship at the shrine of Rosin and Gut with proper deference, Fred Fahrquar will deconstruct your screenname for you.

It's really weird. Like a whole nother unexplored region of a planet that you are already living on... and the only thing that you've heard about it, is that it's populated with grumpy old men. I've ventured over there only a couple times in my life and came running back to this side.

Grumpy old men? I'm not old...though I am known as quite the irritable chap...Is it a sign?

Fuqua's been pretty quiet over there lately, I PM'd him to say Happy NY. He stays pretty busy with the actual manipulating of the double bass. He also doesn't Fuquize names much anymore.

We probably come off as a bunch of grumpy old farts; sometimes we are. I play BG as well as DB, have for 35 years in fact. I like coming over here and checking out the slab side, and the characters that live over here. You guys are an interesting lot. Also, you would never see a thread about socks on the DB forum. That was nice.

I play jazz DB for a living, but I listen to everything, and still play slab a few times a year when I get the call. Enjoy the hell out of it when I do. Coming over to TBBG helps to keep me up to date on stuff.

Only times I ever go over there is by accident. It's kind of scary...

I thought TB was finally free from the nastiness and arrogance of a certain luthier who has equal interest in DB and BG, after he declared he was leaving for good. But I wandered into the DB forums yesterday and there he was, in full flame.

He's been back for a while.

I really think they look down at us because we don't play a real bass.

I don't tread over there. I feel like an idiot because I know nothing about double bass.

It's similar to the "evil twin" theory - every member down there is an evil version of one of us, but with a goatee. I figured out who the evil SuperDuck is, but I'm not allowed to say it as it would stop the space/time continuum.

What if I already have a goatee?
