If sound quality is important, no cheap dock is going to touch a low end Logitech sub/satellite computer speaker system, at least until you get up over $100...

Of course, the dock is going to be tidier-looking, and more portable.

A friend had something like this, that I found at Brookstone for ~$20. Worked really well. I may be getting one for Xmas, myself.

A bi more expensive, but the only one i heard that really impressed me was this one:

https://jawbone.com/speakers

It was the smaller of the two and it honestly pumped out enough volume and low end to fill a room, while sounding pretty balanced and being very small and easy to carry around.

Only reason i didn't buy one is that none of my music devices have bluetooth!

Old PC speakers from garage sales or thrift stores. I've got 3 sets. 2 are AC powered for the desk and the bedroom. One will run off batteries for portability. Total investment: $2.
