I used to kick serious ass with Ken in the street fighter 2 trubo days.
If I play now , I would get my ass handed to me. Kinda lost interest in street fighter.

I used to be pretty good when Street Fighter 2 came out, but I tried playing it a few months ago and I was awful on the easy setting. I can't make it past the first guy, so I quit.

I'm the same way, but oddly enough I'm only this way with fighting games. If I go a year or more without playing a fighting game I lose any skill I've had at it, but hand me a platformer from yesteryear (Mario, Sonic, etc.) and I can play it the same just like when I was a kid.

dude, us fighting game fans are fanatics. I mean, Ive memorized frame counts for moves, attack areas, ultras timings, you name it. Ive traveled long distances to play in tournaments (not willing to share how far cause its mighty embarrassing ), and have actually done fairly well at them. I also study fights on youtube, judging technique, combos used, good defenses, etc, to see what works and what doesnt work for guys like Daigo and others. I spend a crap ton of money on fighting sticks and am in the process of saving up my pennies so that I can buy an arcade unit or 2. If you have any idea of how much those things cost, then you know that they can put some prices of basses to shame.

But youre right though, you have to keep playing, especially with SF. I play a lot (again, not willing to admit how much ), and I have to to keep myself up to tournament snuff.

Yikes dude, that's pretty hardcore.

I'm somewhat familiar with the cost of it...one of my bandmates used to date a girl that was a hardcore Tekken player, and she would go to huge tournaments around the U.S. and more often than not bring home decent prize money. People that compete at that level do not play around! When I tried playing her once I think I maybe got a hit or two off in multiple matches!

Of course, when I told her tekken really isn't that great of a fighting game, she pretty much refused to talk to me for the rest of their relationship.

3D fighters can suck it

nah, Im guilty in dabbling in some of those too, but Ill admit, Im nowhere near as good with them as I am with Street Fighter, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Darkstalkers, King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, etc.

Now see... you should have made a thread about Guilty Gear instead... then you could branch out on topics like the soundtracks, etc...

I had SFA2 once for saturn, but the disc was bad (bought used and didn't inspect it first). Capcom 2d fighters were always great (Darkstalkers, SF, Marvel vs. Capcom, x-men COTA and SF vs x-men). No love lost on streetfighter, but if I had to choose between SF and GG, GG would win hands down.

Haven't had much time to look into new stuff with my constant schedule. (work day job, get home, work both independent bus. ventures, keep track of club thread, etc...). I'm lucky if I get 6 hrs of sleep most days. So I haven't really had the time... but I HAVE heard of the game due to being a megatokyo reader. It was mentioned in one of Dom's posts on the main page a few months back (if it wasn't there, then it was Penny-Arcade).

I've been trying to get into SF4 over these last few months, studying combos and what not but I guess I just don't practice enough. My brain knows what to do but my hands get confused with the execution

Maybe I just don't have the reflexes. Just got a stick in December and I'm still getting comfortable with it.

Playing online matches seems like a joke. Everyone just picks Ryu, Ken, or Sagat. And for every 10 horrible Kens I've played I'll come across 1 or 2 who actually know what they are doing and mop the floor with me. I prefer Blanka btw.

But the lag is the most unbearable thing
I've lost more matches then I care to keep track of to inferior players simply because my connection was too laggy. sigh

I was into SFII when it was an arcade game... Always wanted to meet whoever they modeled Chun-Li after...

I've played it in the past, liked it. I was always more into Mortal Kombat though.
